City Center • The Dick Family's All-In-One Incarnation

The City Center building is located in the northern part of the German colony, at the intersection of Ben Gurion Boulevard and Jaffa Streets and its address is 6 Ben Gurion Boulevard. Dick's Department Store According to the 1882 map of the German colony, on the lot on which the City Center building was built, the large trading house of the Templar family Abram Duck was located. The Dick family was one of the wealthiest in the German colony and their residence - at 8 Ben Gurion Boulevard - was one of the largest and most luxurious in the colony. Later, their sons, who continued the family tradition, were among the largest merchants in Haifa. The family ran a kind of department store that sold a variety of products, from everyday products to agricultural machinery. Among its regular customers were also Jewish settlers from the northern colonies. Agronomist Aaron Aaronson from Zichron Yaakov worked for a time as an agent at Dick's trading house, before devoting himself to his scientific and political work. In a 1984 photograph of...

Students in Haifa threaten a strike: "It is not fair to wage a struggle on our backs, and even more so during a war"

(haipo) - The district student and youth council - Haifa district, joins the ultimatum set by the national student council and threatens to shut down studies in high schools in the district this coming Thursday, 27/03/2024.

The spokesperson of the District Student Council in the Haifa district, Shira Avital, explained today (Monday 25/3/24) that on the one hand the students understand the teachers' demand for fair employment conditions, but it is not possible for the war to be waged on the backs of the students. "We, like all the councils, are taking part in the strike, which is planned for Thursday throughout the school day. It is important for us to hold the strike on Thursday, because that's when an education committee on sanctions is held in the Knesset, and that is our goal. We are currently active on social media and WhatsApp groups, with the aim of reaching for each and every student.

The strike will be in high schools, when our demand is that the teachers' organization and the Ministry of Finance sit down and talk, not at the expense of the students. The thing that bothers us in the whole matter is the sanctions of the teachers' organization, because because of them we don't get grades. This year a war broke out, and at a time like this they choose to have another war. It is not right to deal with such things in wartime. We demand to receive what we deserve and that our studies not be harmed. It is important for us to emphasize that we understand how important the struggle that the chairman of the teachers' organization, Ran Erez, is leading, but the students are very hurt by this. The motivation to study is harmed when we do not know the grades and in the end it affects the continuation of our studies and the results we will receive."

"We will not allow damage to teachers' job security"

Erez addressed the teachers in a letter, in which he updated them on the issue, explaining that the teachers' organization had been negotiating with the Ministry of Finance for a year and a half, and on the eve of the opening of the current school year, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance agreed on a general outline. The negotiations were supposed to end by 01/12/2023, but in practice, there are still many clauses regarding which there is still no agreement and therefore a new salary agreement has not yet been formed.

According to Erez, the Ministry of Finance demands that clauses be inserted into the agreement that could harm the occupational and economic security of the teachers. Erez further explains that it is true that the State of Israel is currently in wartime, but in practice, "any time is not the right time for a struggle." Erez also refers to the claim that the sanctions are being carried out on the backs of the students, which he claims is not true, since the smooth course of studies is not affected. The sanctions include the typing of the grades and passing them on to any possible source and the holding of the activity beyond the eighth lesson.

Avital, an 26th grade student, explains that representatives of the national council met with Ran Erez last Thursday. "That's why we set the ultimatum. If by Wednesday evening, 03/XNUMX, there is no progress in negotiations and the signing of a salary agreement, the meetings will take place on Thursday. We are really not against the teachers' organization, we simply have a demand that it "go back to talking" so that we reach a long-term solution and that the sanctions do not take place. At the same time, it is important to us that our teachers receive the conditions they deserve, but not at the expense of the students, as this hurts us. Every high school student, who is supposed to receive protected grades, feels the impact. A short-term solution is to sweep it under the carpet. Our goal is to get the teachers' organization and the Ministry of Finance to sit down and talk and conclude the salary agreements. In addition, it is our right to know the shield score, before taking the matriculation exam and our right to receive the matriculation grades as well. Our lives are diverse, youth movements, personal life and studies, and it is important for us to get what we deserve in terms of studies."

  1. The teachers are not working. They teach and do themselves a favor by even entering the classrooms. A large part of studying has already become "take a notebook and fill it in at home" or "we will solve one exercise and you can do the rest at home" or "here you are studying, sit in front of the computer and study".
The teachers are fed up with the public in the country.
They did not contribute one day of those that the students lost in the war
Where to "get under the stretcher". They are leeches.

  2. Ran Erez is tired of everything on the backs of the students, the studies in the education system are not equal in Israel, the teachers without motivation hardly teach and there are only complaints about the salary? They have days off that I wish the employees in the country had about 100 days a year and the children only study with private teachers and by themselves and in the end they don't even get the results of the tests, because of the strikes you are responsible for all the time.
They have passed Corona, they are going through a war, what else... tired of the threats of the strikes, an entire generation did not learn the education as it should have been.

  3. Do you work a few hours a day, have about 100 days off a year and now want a salary increase again?
When will these fat bodies in the country be privatized? Yes, teachers will earn 15,000 shekels, but they will work 9 hours a day and 15 days off a year like most employees in the economy, they will work in the summer like most employees in the economy and they will help weak students instead of the parents having to pay private teachers, teachers who care about the students and they care about the students' achievements. When are these fat bodies in the country Will it be privatized?

    • Go be a teacher instead of confusing your brain and we'll see you - instead of crying that you're paying private tutors, take responsibility for your children and don't blame it on the teachers. Let's see you stand and teach a high school class and prepare today's adolescent boys for graduation, the worst of them is their parents! A test examiner gives marks to each and every student. If there were no such conditions in the teaching profession, no one would teach, and even so, the salaries are a joke!

    • You are 100 percent right, it is time to privatize the entire education system, make it competitive and efficient.
To lower all the fats and benefits as countries at the top of the world's achievements do.
Pure studies, without wasting time on sculpting and trips and an educator's hour and a petting zoo.
The money thrown at the education system, 70 billion shekels a year, has no equal as a percentage of the world's budget, and you get a failed education.
Lazy teachers who do a favor by coming to teach and are rewarded for their lack of achievement, by having a private tutoring industry and after
The school is a private matriculation completion industry. It is a double damage to the economy also the cost of the "education" most of which are low level babysitters and then
The damage cost of the cost of unskilled manpower who have to spend many years on self-study in private institutes.
It is possible to cut compulsory education up to the age of 6 and from there private schools, everyone will pay for the type of education they want and what they want to be taught and 4 general baccalaureates will be supervised by the state in Hebrew, English, math and science.
