Return with a collection of medals
We have been following the successes of 21-year-old Omri Zebida, an internationally competitive Brazilian jiu-jitsu athlete, with a purple belt, who trains in the Israeli national team with coach Amir Bovaron since Zebida was 16. Omri is a European champion and ranked second in the world until Age 21. Recently returned from a training camp in California in the USA with 2 gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - a martial art method used for self-defense, with which you can overcome even a physically bigger person. The goal is to establish control in the fight using dominant positions and to submit through chokes and locks. Omri started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when he was 10 years old, when his parents enrolled him in a class, with the aim of him learning to defend himself. Little by little he fell in love with the unique sport.
The first gold medal
Already in the first national competition in which he participated, Zevida won and took the gold medal, he was 13 years old at the time. At 16 years old he started competing in international competitions around the world, in his first competition in Romania he lost and did not get to go on the podium. He continued to train and work hard, and a month later he flew to compete in the European Championships in Greece, where he managed to obtain the title of European Vice Champion and his first international medal.
At the age of 19 he won the title of European Champion twice and continued to accumulate victories and medals. Two months ago he decided that he wanted to take himself a step further and started planning a training camp that would last a month in California in the USA - from the beginning of February to the beginning of March.
6 wins in 8 fights
In an interview with Lahi Fa, Zevida says:
"I flew to one of the largest and most successful institutes in the world (ATOS HQ) from which many very well-known athletes in the field came out, who became world champions. During the training camp, I would get up at six in the morning, and there were even times when I would get up at five in the morning, train about three training sessions a day and go to bed early, to gather strength for the day After that, all this while maintaining a good diet and focusing on the goal.
I competed during the training camp in two competitions, the first was the IBJJF Sacramento open where I took first place in the NOGI division (without a suit), and third place in the GI division (with a suit). The second competition I competed in was the Grappling X Association World Championship, where I won first place in the GI division, and second place in the NOGI division. In both competitions I had 8 fights, of which I won 6 fights - 3 fights by points and 3 by submission. A total of 2 gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal."
"It is a great pride and responsibility to represent Israel, especially at a time like this"
"I was very excited for these competitions, for two main reasons," says Zevida, "one is that many flights were canceled because of the war, so we didn't fly to international competitions, and these are the first competitions I got to participate in since the beginning of the war. The second reason is that I felt a great sense of pride and responsibility to be The only Israeli representative of the State of Israel competing under the state flag, and especially at a time like this. I was happy to represent our country with honor in the world and I hope I will always have the right to do so," he concludes.
