(haipo) Haifa sailing is marking a leap today, with the launch of three competitive 29er boats. This is a youth model, which is gradually replacing the 420 model in the world and is a stepping stone towards the Olympic model - 49er, which is larger, but very similar in appearance.

The excitement is great
The management of the Haifa Sailing Association purchased 3 boats of the latest model. The cost of each boat is about NIS 80.
The sailors who excelled and advanced from the Optimist model, train in turns on the new boats and the excitement is great, because these are very fast boats.
► Very fast sailing with a huge (blue) Jinicar sail - 29er model boat:
The boats achieve wind speed at about 50%, in a crosswind with the jinner sail. For example, in a wind of about 7-8 knots, as it was on the day of the filming, the boats cruised at a speed of about 12-13 knots.
The speed is possible due to the flat structure of the boat as well as due to the huge sail area of the boat.

Technical challenge:
The 29er model challenges the sailors on a technical level, because these are boats with a flat and short structure, they have a huge sail area, in relation to their size, and they immediately go up for sailing in planing (sliding on the surface of the water made possible by the structure of the boat - called a "floating body"). Today that the boat is flat and fast, it capsizes easily and therefore a very high technical skill is required. Every mistake leads to overturning.

The 29er boat is equipped with several advanced features that do not exist in the outdated models:

The sails are made of advanced and transparent material.
The striker moves by itself from side to side and can be directed with a rail mounted on the deck.
The bottom is double and the water slides out by itself.
