The city of pigs is on its way to becoming the city of jackals • Haifa

(live here) – The phenomenon of jackals in public space in the city of Haifa continues to gain momentum. If the city's residents only encountered wild boars in recent years, today we are witnessing more and more encounters with jackals. The Nature and Parks Authority: "The entry of wild animals into populated areas as well as their breeding results from the lack of sanitation."

Jackals also become permanent residents

Haifa has long since become a city where wild boars have become permanent residents, who roam around us at all hours of the day in the yards of houses, on the streets, in parks, next to kindergartens and schools and even wait for us at the entrances of the food chains. In addition to the pigs, the residents of Haifa are beginning to feel that the jackals are also slowly becoming permanent residents and soon they may also start providing headlines for the media.

Fear of an increase in jackals infected with rabies

Residents report incidents with jackals on the way to work or school in the mornings and in certain areas report seeing them in the evening and at night. Many also come across them looking for food near garbage cans or eating scraps of cat food left on the street. In addition to howling, many residents are worried about the jackal phenomenon as almost every week there is a report of a jackal infected with rabies. Although we are not talking about the Haifa area, the chance of transmitting rabies through jackals is great.

Many articles have been written here on the subject and we even tried to check with the authorities why efforts or steps are not being taken to prevent the recurrence of the same scenario that the residents of the city face with the wild boars.

The entry of wild animals into populated areas and their breeding results from the lack of sanitation

In contacting the Nature and Parks Authority, we were told that the authority recognizes and monitors the spread of invasive species, including jackals, in many cities across the country. In most cases, the increase in the entry of wild animals into populated areas as well as their breeding and population growth is due to the lack of sanitation and the abundance of food sources available in the cities. The best and most effective way to control the given situation, they say, is street sanitation, closing trash cans and not feeding animals (wild and domestic) outdoors.

No request for help was sent from the Haifa municipality regarding the jackals

The Nature and Parks Authority works together with the municipal authorities and gives permits to operate in accordance with the legal guidelines for trapping or treatment in the areas of the local authority. Currently, no request for help has been sent to the Nature and Parks Authority from Haifa Municipality regarding jackals. However, we are working with the Haifa municipality continuously on the issue of the wild horses.

  1. All this in addition to the large amount of rats in Haifa's sewage system.

  2. Hahahahaha I prefer to hang out among live pigs and not among biting shits that fill investigative broadcasts every day and they live at the expense of others.
Hahahahaha together hahahahaha we will win

  3. There will be a new mayor, Yahav who will eradicate the phenomenon, finally someone who will care, the previous one was the worst in the history of the city not only for the pigs

  4. Filth and dirt in every corner. The city became as dirty as it had never been before

  5. In Sed Hatanim, contacts in the early evening, people are still in the middle of shopping, it is impossible to live, afraid to leave the house, what will happen, they are closing in on the house, what quality of life do we have, it is impossible to sleep at night, I called the city, they opened a call, but they did nothing

  6. In response to the comment no one died yet returns. So should we wait for it? People have already been injured and taken to hospitals. enough already.
We need to take real measures and not talk.

  7. Enough with the animals already. Returning no one died yet, but from dilapidated roads, crime and insecurity in the streets, and air pollution = yes! These are the problems of Haifa, not wild animals that build houses for them and then wonder why they are not killed.

  8. Maybe a pig will attack Etzioni and a lion will attack Chalona Yahav
And like Romulus and Remus, a new leadership for Haifa will be born from this attack. Amen.

  9. almost everyday
2 in the morning like sirens on Rachel and Margalit Street
Dozens of jackals howl for half an hour. Make the dogs bark back.
Our sleep is quite disturbed. The children are afraid to go out in the evening because of pigs and jackals. what the end will be?! Why is there no thinning and management of vapors?!

  10. In our neighborhood (hint) the bins are closed, there is no garbage in the street and every night you hear the jackals. Haifa has long since become a nature reserve, a place that is scary to walk around in, and all the nice souls please adopt a pig and let it be like this, maybe they won't walk around and scare our children. By the way, don't blame Kalish, in any case the years of Yahav Yahav's tenure multiplied and he did nothing, Kalish inherited the pigs, at least fixed the bins and indeed they almost don't hang around our street anymore.

  11. The 1955 Wildlife Protection Act places all responsibility for the care of wild animals on the Minister of Agriculture, and he of course does nothing, just takes a salary.

    • The law was changed and amended in 1990.
Please update. This section was omitted from the original law.

  12. As usual, the hecks receive a salary from the public and do not move themselves. RTG's inspectors will seize a tort claim for millions as soon as rabies-infected urine bites a child, and maybe they will also spend a little time in prison since they don't have protection at the Haifa station.

  13. Why are there many places in Israel where there are neither pigs nor jackals?
Because... residents live there who are not enslaved to pike and passwords.

  14. A country of idiots!
The land must be brought back to life.
We will turn the city into a zoo!
Cats, rats, pigs, wines, jackals, sparrows, crows, dogs, horses....
And the "human" species will move to live in the lower city of Gaza!
    You are going to perish.
Slowly but surely in every field!!
    good luck to you!

  15. Already a year ago I saw them hanging around my entrance to the house. But no one wakes up. And I see all the garbage that people throw in the street instead of in the trash and that people feed the pigs without any disturbance, so what's the wonder? If they did supervision and distributed reports then maybe it could change. But this city was abandoned a long time ago and everyone is just minding their own ass

  16. Let's continue to destroy the nature and the home of the wild animals here. Then we will complain.. we are causing all this damage. And the poor animals have no choice but to walk here and suffer because of us .. taking over more forest and more area of wadi and nature all to impress more and more. Haifa is no longer as pastoral as it used to be!!!!

  17. Jackals are not a new phenomenon. In fact they were here even before the pigs. Basically they are not dangerous except in a situation where they have rabies.

  18. I live in Carmel and every night I hear the jackals walking and howling in the yard, I'm afraid they will catch my cats and kill them. Please dilute them before they dilute my cats

  19. I think now is the time to revive the wildlife vaccination project that was discontinued by the government a few years ago. If it is not possible to block the growth of pigs and jackals, then at least vaccinate them

  20. Why destroy???? A city immersed in a unique nature
Every city has its own uniqueness, including animals. Haifa is a stunning city, abundant in nature and animals, and yes... the wild pigs make Haifa unique and make it unique and special.

  21. Tired of people smoking pipes, eat me, drink me, come on, go find something to do

  22. We destroy the living areas for wild animals and then come with complaints that there are delusional people here!!!

  23. Waiting for Yona Yahav to save us. Hopefully he will bring hunters or we will have to evacuate from here for the sake of the animals

  24. To all the good-hearted people who claim that we have taken away the jackals and pigs their living space, please allocate one room in your private apartment and give the pigs and jackals their living space back. Until less than a century ago (a negligible comma in history), wolves, bears, large wild cats and even tigers lived in the Land of Israel... Let's bring them back to the streets of Haifa, and open up safari tourism for the benefit of the city's economy...

  25. We wake up every night to the sounds of the jackals who come from the direction of the Technion in groups and wake us up with experiences
Pigs are something else. We have a pig in the garden of the house every night that turns the soil in the pots and digs for food. We don't have food in the garden, so he digs to look for it. He is huge and you can get rid of him. It is dangerous for adults and children.

  26. Cliché is the proof how much the city hates her because of the pigs now she also brought jackals that are everywhere
Locking the bins does not help. All sedimentation bins need to be replaced.
The pigs turn over the bins that are locked with a chain. They learned to open and take out garbage bags. And everyone is celebrating, including the jackals. Only killing and thinning the jackals at the same time will keep them away from the beautiful city

  27. We no longer need to travel abroad to nature reserves like Tanzania and other places. We have it here at home. How beautiful. I hear them every day from my house and see them, including the pigs.
I guess the new leadership will take care of them.
And for anyone who cares about them, adopt some animals in your garden and take care of them, I have no problem with that.

  28. The proliferation of pigs and jackals in the streets and neighborhoods is a sign and testimony to the deplorable neglect that existed during the tenure of Klish as mayor of the municipality. The jackals that always accompanied my childhood in the city near the valleys did not previously dare to roam the streets like they have in the past two years. They multiplied because the food was available to them without limit. This happens due to the poor treatment of the garbage and weak enforcement and the lack of proper information about proactive feeding of animals and throwing garbage outside the bins.
I promise that we will change immediately after the election of the next mayor, Yona Yahav. Or then the execution of an extensive and determined plan for a comprehensive and wide-ranging treatment of this Mecca will begin immediately!

  29. If only the pigs and jackals could vote…. Kalisher would leave dust for everyone. destroyed the city.

  30. The singing of the jackals is relaxing and entertaining. On the other hand, wild boars are extremely dangerous and disgusting animals. Yona Yahav will put an end to the wild boar phenomenon.

  31. Call the city of Haifa to the city of wild pigs

  32. What's new? Wadi Amik has been full of jackals (and pigs) for decades. They walk around in broad daylight and are not afraid of anything and also walk up the wadi between the buildings. Now it's "concert season". Every night and lately also during the day

  33. What is this nonsense you write. Everything is in our hands. I saw a video of a request inviting pigs to her workplace. The pig and her puppies entered. The municipality must issue a law that those who feed pigs will pay a fine. This is what cats once witnessed and then they ate cats and rats. Whoever wants to breed cats will take care of his house and not distribute them on the streets and leave a lot of garbage. It's enough for you to just go against the city that the residents are to blame for the Great Model simply feeding them. And the city is beautiful. Piles of cat food and full of dog poo something something. They had to put cameras on who feeds and who lets their dogs loose.

  34. I already saw years ago in Haifa above...in our neighborhood...jackals running in the street at night...the problem is that the phenomenon is probably getting worse because they are not thinning...there is no supervision...just like with the pigs. Failed and failed management...let's hope that soon the mayor Yona Yahav...and his assistants will deal with this problem.

  35. They do not enter our territory. We eliminated every designated area and every living area of the wild animals.
What did we expect the poor to do?

  36. rabies? what nonsense We haven't found a jackal with rabies in Israel for years.
After we built inside their house and destroyed it, we should not be surprised that the pigs and jackals roam inside our house.
Everyone talks about the pigs and the jackals and pumps up the hysteria but no one takes a simple step like landfilling garbage cans.
