(haipo) - The elections for the local councils in Dalit al-Carmel and Isfaya ended with a surprise in Isfaya, in which Muniv Saba was elected as the new head of the council and with a third term Del Rafik Halabi in Dalit al-Carmel.
Usafia: Out of four comes one
4 competed for the presidency of the Usafia Council: Bhij Mansor, who served in the last term when he replaced Vejia Kiuf in the previous elections; Riyad Mansour, Khair Kiif and Muniv Saba, who was elected by the majority of votes already in the first round.
Muniv Saba - the new head of the council
Muniv Saba, 49, chairman of the "Love of Usafia" faction, married and the father of four, won 41.6% of the votes, compared to 39.6% received by the outgoing head of the council, Bhij Mansour - a member of the largest family in the settlement.
Prior to running for Council Presidency, Saba served in a senior position in the Prime Minister's Office, and for the purpose of running for Council Presidency, he went to the military. Before that, Saba was an officer in the IDF, within this framework he held a number of classified positions.
Dali'at El-Carmel
In Dalit El Carmel the atmosphere was tense around the local elections. Two well-known and highly experienced politicians ran for the presidency of the council - Rafik Halabi and Akram Hasson. Halabi was elected with a majority of votes, with 52.4% of the votes, and therefore will continue in his position as head of the council for the third time. Hassan, who lost to Halabi, won 47.6% of the votes.
Akram Hasson served as a Knesset member in the past - in the 18th Knesset it was on behalf of the "Kadima" party and in the 20th Knesset on behalf of the "Kulana" party. Hasson also served as the mayor of the "City of Carmel" (unification of the two local councils - Dalit El Carmel and Usafia). The union, which was carried out as part of a reform of the Ministry of the Interior in 2003, lasted for about six years.
Rafik Halavi was elected for the third time
Rafik Halabi is a public figure, journalist and media person. For the first time, Halabi was elected as head of the Dalit Al Carmel Council in the elections held in 2013. He was elected for the second time in 2018, and now, in the elections held last week (27/2/24), Halabi was elected for the third time and will continue in his position as head of the council.
