(Hai Fe) - Progress has been made regarding the construction of the "Scenic" light rail that will connect Haifa to the Galilee and Nazareth - the group that won the tender for the construction and operation of the light rail has been selected.
Group number three, consisting of the companies Alstom, Electra and Minerv, won on Monday 19.1.24 a tender of the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety and the Chutsa Israel Company in the international tender for the construction and operation of the "Nofit" light rail that will connect Haifa to the Galilee and Nazareth.
The "Scenic" light rail will connect the settlements of the northern metropolis from Haifa to Nof HaGalil and Nazareth, and will serve as a transportation, economic and social growth engine for the entire northern region, will strengthen the northern periphery of Israel and connect it to the center of the country. This is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Israel in the field of public transportation.
Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Brigadier General (resp.) Miri Regev:
The announcement of the winner of the tender for the construction of the 'Scenic' light rail, a huge project that will connect the Galilee landscape, Nazareth and the Galilee settlements to the Haifa metropolis, is great news for the residents of the north, news of renewal and growth, of connecting the periphery to the center, of freedom of movement and freedom of occupational choice. Four leading and reputable groups, each of which represents Israeli and international cooperation, approached the tender with an impressive expression of confidence in the strength, stability and future of the Israeli economy. On behalf of the residents of the north and all residents of Israel, I congratulate the winning group and promise to assist in every way so that this important project is completed as soon as possible and will bring significant change to the entire northern region. I wish us all a successful journey!
Initial execution stages of infrastructure preparation
The "Nofit" light rail project is already in the initial stages of preparing the infrastructure. The next phase, which starts today, is promoted in the PPP format of cooperation between the private and public sectors, similar to successful projects such as the light rail in Jerusalem, Route 6, the Carmel tunnels and more.
CEO of Chutz Israel, Dan Shanbach:
Chutz Israel is proud to lead the national project for the construction of the 'Nupit' light rail, the implementation of which has already begun. The project is of tremendous importance to the economic resilience of the State of Israel and it will be a significant growth engine for the economy in general and the North in particular. The competition of groups consisting of leading international and Israeli companies is the result of fruitful cooperation and an expression of confidence in the Israeli economy, something that is gaining momentum these days.
The Ministry of Finance has already considered canceling it and replacing it with a matron
There is no advantage to light rail on the route and it will run empty most of the day
A direct bus is better in every respect.
