(haipo) - A man was seriously injured in a fire in a residential apartment in Haifa
From Fire and Rescue it is communicated to Ha Pa:
Early in the morning (Wednesday 24/1/24), a report was received at Moked 102 from a woman who complained of a burning smell in the stairwell of a residential building on HaGalil Street in Haifa.
During the conversation and while directing the woman to the stairwell in order to check the nature of the incident, it became clear that there was a fire in the apartment on the third floor (out of the four floors in the building). The fire fighters from the Haifa station, under the command of Rabbi Reshef Ronan Atias, quickly arrived at the scene.
It soon became clear to the fighters that a 57-year-old man was rescued from the apartment by resourceful neighbors, and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The firefighters began searching under the thick smoke and rescued a cat from the burning house that was in a very serious condition. Unfortunately, the cat did not survive.
Later, the fighters took control of the heavy fire, released the smoke and ended the event.
The commander of the Haifa Tafser station, Mishna Suisa Yitzhak, his deputy and the station's operations officer arrived at the scene and accompanied the firefighters in their work. "We are praying for the safety of the injured."
The circumstances of the incident were investigated.

MDA reported:
Tonight at 03:21 a report was received at MDA's 101 hotline in the Carmel area, about a fire in an apartment in a residential building on HaGalil Street in Haifa. MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment and evacuated a 58-year-old man who was rescued from the apartment, in serious condition, to Rambam Hospital. , anesthetized and ventilated, with approximately 30% upper body burns and after smoke inhalation.
A smoke detector saves lives
A team of investigators led by the head of the investigation branch in the Hoof district, Deputy Inspector Ran Levy, examined the scene and determined that apparently the radiation of a spiral oven found in the apartment caused the fire to start.
Yesterday (Tuesday 23/1/24), as I recall, two children were killed in Jerusalem by the radiation of a spiral oven as well, and this is the time to remind that spiral ovens are dangerous to use, and it is especially dangerous to use them to heat clothes. Safe means of heating must be used, such as an air conditioner or a radiator.
The investigation also shows that a smoke detector was not installed in the apartment. A detector would have alerted before the fire spread. It has been proven in many cases that a smoke detector saves lives. Fire and rescue services are back and calling the public: Install a smoke detector as soon as possible!
