"We will not agree to study alongside students who support terrorism" • Protest against the decision of Haifa University

(lives here with the students) - Strong opposition to Haifa University's decision to withdraw from the suspension of 8 students who expressed support for Hamas after the Shi'a massacre in October, and this only a few days after announcing their suspension.

The University of Haifa announced this week, as I recall, the return to studies of students who expressed support for Hamas. In response to this, dozens of students demonstrated on Tuesday (9/1/24) at the entrance to the university and expressed their refusal to sit on the study bench next to those who expressed their support and even joy over the atrocities.

The CEO of the Student Union, Daniel Amar, who participated in the demonstration, told Lahi Fe:
"8 students received a summons to a disciplinary committee in order to determine whether they indeed expressed identification with Hamas or whether they should be acquitted. An interim decision stated that until a final decision is made by the disciplinary committee they are suspended from their studies. For two months no decision was made. On Sunday we received a message that it was decided that the students would be returned to studies until a final decision is made. The reason for this decision is that their academic integrity could be humanly harmed, meaning that their studies could be harmed by being suspended from their studies."

"There should be an unequivocal statement"

"In that disciplinary committee, which is a legal process, the university does not come out with an unequivocal statement that it is against terrorism. For him, the statement should be unequivocal. Those who supported terrorism should be expelled from the university permanently. There cannot be a stammering statement here. We believe that this is an attempt to text the matter - First, they are sent back to school, and after that a lenient decision will be made towards them."

It is a struggle for all students - Jews and Arabs - against students who support terrorism

Director General of the Student Union Daniel Amar (Photo: Live here in the field)

"Rejoice on the Sabbath in October"

"It is very important to understand that this is a joint student struggle, of all students who want to live together, Jews and Arabs, against students who are happy about what happened on October 7.

Just to understand what it is about, in one of the posts in question you see a burnt out IDF jeep with the inscription "The happiest day of my life. We decided that we are not ready to sit and study with those students. We opened a WhatsApp group with close to 600 students and our goal is to stand at the entrance to the university and show the administration that there is a large group of students who are not ready to put up with this. Most university students are not willing to sit with those students. To understand again that this is only the first step in the protest."

"What about the academic integrity of the students who serve in the reserves?"

"It seems absurd to me that the claim that those students are returning to study is a concern for their academic integrity, while we, the students who serve in the reserves, are fighting in Gaza and Lebanon, our academic integrity is in doubt. The University of Haifa was the first educational institution to expel students for supporting terrorism and suddenly it took a step back." .

"Pain and charged atmosphere"

Amr says: "There was a very charged atmosphere. People came whose house burned down on the seventh of October, there was someone whose two nephews were murdered. A student stood and cried in front of the university president Prof. Ron Rubin and the dean of students Prof. Batia Engel-Yager. The president came to hear the students who were there to hurt their pain."

"There is no other way to interpret"

"It is important to understand that this is a decision of the judicial authorities and not of the president. Of course, in our eyes it is a disgraceful decision. The president returned to his office after arriving at the demonstration, and later a conversation took place between the student representatives and him, and we are waiting for his answer. Any response that does not meet our full demands is illegitimate From our point of view, from the material we have received, there are students who supported terrorism in a way that there is no other way to interpret it.

"The disciplinary proceedings continue according to the procedures"

In response, the university management stated that they understand the hearts of the students and respect their right to demonstrate. "As we also explained to them - the disciplinary procedures continue according to the university's procedures."

  1. Shanking that in an anti-Jewish, anti-Israeli, anti-Zionist university this is happening... you will lick your Arabs even more

  2. This university has always been problematic in this regard. Back when I was a student 25 years ago.
Students who express demonstrable joy on Holocaust Remembrance Day, anti-Israeli exhibitions and Arab students who behave with abject disrespect towards a country that grants them rights, freedom of language and even scholarships and subsidized housing.
    Really sad!!

  3. Democracy is sometimes ideological suicide. The interesting thing is that mostly female students expressed their opinion about their religion, for me I thought they would monitor, attack with legitimate tools but Yuk. If they don't respond then a terrible confrontation will happen. It's not rector it's cowardice.

  4. Fling immediately! The phenomenon should not be taken lightly. Zero patience, zero tolerance.

  5. Not caught
The university is behaving like a battered woman. They humiliate, beat, support terrorism and she still bows down and avoids taking a brave decision.
what the end will be ???
Even here in Israel we have lost our public institutions, we do not succeed in separating supporters of terrorism, how do you expect us to succeed in The Hague?

  6. Shame on Haifa University, we will not register there! Boycott the university. May you stay away from Arabs who support terrorism and murder...

  7. Very beautiful, this is how it should be for those who have no sorrow and pain for what happened on Black Saturday and still these murderers are strengthening innocent abductees. Azzz will gladly go to the other side. I am sure that the majority of Israeli Arabs support me and this is how it should be to show the world that it is possible to live together in unity and love loves you sweet students I wish All the best in the world to you, God bless you 🙏🙏❤️❤️😘😘

  8. Madness of systems...how much stupidity there is in the academy. It seems that wisdom is reserved only for the common people and the self-taught. The universities have become churches of the crazy progressive religion even more than radical Islam itself.

  9. The time has come to act and not just talk and this is addressed to the government of Israel, citizenship should be denied to anyone who supports terrorism, and at the height of his audacity he testifies to his joy regarding the results of October 7th.

  10. How long will both Israel-hating and greedy Troichts at our expense all fly away for the Yala scholarships?

  11. This unbearable ease, in which Arabs, citizens of Israel, students who enjoy an abundance of benefits and affirmative action at the University of Haifa, and at the same time spit into the well from which they drink, act as if they are the owners of the house, while they are guests, no longer welcome guests after October 7th, drives me crazy. kick them out immediately.

  12. The University of Haifa will not operate with these supporters of terrorism and they will continue to study. The celebration is over

  13. It's time to start acting! It is impossible for us to allow supporters of terrorism to get a higher education! Enough, a clear and unequivocal statement!

  14. disgrace! There is no place in an Israeli university for supporters of terrorism!

  15. If the cedars fell into flames, what would Izovi Kir do?

What do you expect from universities abroad when our universities allow supporters of terrorism to study without expelling them immediately.
Just a shame and disgrace, and kudos to the students who will not return to school until they expel all those who expressed support for the events on October 7.

  16. Haifa University, you should be ashamed!!! There is no gray area in supporting what happened on 7.10. The 8 students should be fired immediately!
Our brothers students and reservists, strengthen your hands!

  17. They should be expelled from the country, not only from the university.
    It's really a disgrace!
This neglect will be very damaging to the future of the university in many aspects.
The 7.10 is a default of the mysteries.
It's not too late to come back and do it!

  18. Supporters of terrorism as terrorists to dismantle them and deny them citizenship and to Syria. The bigger problem is that the Jews in the university administration are fake Jews, anti-Semites with a death wish, those who are not happy with a Jewish state should leave the Jewish state, you are the cancer of the state, they will still be kidnapped by the terrorists, student soldiers fall in battle defending the sons of Belial, the free-eating pigs, kick them out of Israel.

  19. H..H...H... "Their educational sequence will hurt in a human way"?
After all, the arms and legs of the supporters of terrorism need to be removed in a human way!!!

  20. At a good time and with good luck, the students are protesting about something that is not related to tuition fees.
    It's time 💪
Maybe the day will come when the students will protest the attempt to steal the government.
