Beware of sharks - stigma or truth?

In recent years there have been reports of divers reporting both small and large sharks in Israel, as well as a significant increase in the number of their family members (cartilaginous fish) not far from the coast.

The stigma on sharks

For people around the world, there has been a stigma about sharks since the launch of the movie "Jaws" in the seventies. There are many people who, since watching the movie, stay in shallow water only or don't visit the sea at all. This, due to fear of this amazing animal.

Shark hunting is prohibited by law in the world, but there are countries that ignore this law. In Asia and other countries in the world, shark fins are used to make a delicacy - fin soup.

It is evil to hunt a shark, cut off its fins while it is alive and throw it into the sea where it will drown to death and suffocate without being able to breathe. The shark is indeed a fish, but it cannot breathe without movement because it does not have a gill cover like fish, but gill cracks through which seawater passes and provides the shark with the air it needs.

Of the hundreds of species of sharks, most are not dangerous to humans. The most notorious are:

  • Amaltz white.. Amaltz blue (mako)
  • Tiger Shark
  • Lemon shark
  • bull shark
  • White edges
  • Black edges

Which are the most prominent among them and they are not permanent residents in Israel, except for Mako who has reports of him from Acre, Palmahim and Sidna Ali beach in Herzliya. In Bat Galim and Hadra there are many reports of spotted trigons, tahan par and more, some of them two meters long. The mere presence of sharks on Israel's shores is a positive sign that points to the cleanliness of the water on Israel's shores, which is only getting better.

For anyone who doesn't know sharks…

Every animal that feels threatened has its own warning language. For example, a dog bares its teeth and a cat arches its back, octopuses and squids change color, sharks bend, swim strangely and sometimes open their mouths and lower their pectoral fins. Do not wait for a warning - avoid proximity. Do not touch or disturb the sharks and do not feed them - they are not pets.

Interesting information about the shark

Although the shark has scales and a fin, it is not kosher according to religion. This is because the scale is not torn off. There are differences of opinion on this issue, because even though it is not torn off, the scale will not allow any parasite to penetrate the skin biologically.

Many divers travel to different places in the world to swim with sharks for example to the Maldives, Mexico, Bermuda and Africa. In her room, in the hot discharge of the cooling water of the turbines, dozens of females of finches and very large sparrows gather every year, carrying their offspring inside. The hot water does them good.

  1. What a fascinating and amazing article! Thanks to you Muti, I learned a lot from this article about the sharks themselves and their breathing pattern. You didn't know that a shark needs to move in order to breathe! In addition, the video in which the shark is filmed swimming in the water is spectacular in its beauty! It's a shame that there are countries that feed the sharks even though it's illegal and even hunt them. In the end this will lead to the minority of sharks and the extinction of certain species of sharks.
Thank you very much Motti for publishing this article and for giving me and the public at home such interesting and fascinating information. There is no doubt that it is great to learn from someone who lives and breathes the sea in his bones, and for a sea lover like me it is a real pleasure to sit and read and learn these amazing things! There is a biased force! Waiting for your next articles!

  2. Eyal, Yahav will be elected in my opinion and will return even if the elections are postponed another 200 times and he will already be over 80 years old because it seems that both the leftists and the "minorities" choose him (by the way, at the rate of their migration from the villages to Haifa, I feel that soon we will be the minority here).
But what does politics have to do with the article about sharks? We always thought that the sharks come to the beaches of Hadera because of the power plant and the warm water and not to the beaches of Haifa

  3. The flying mayor. Yahav broke records for trips abroad at the expense of the tax payer in Haifa.
23 countries the mayor visited at your expense. First class flights, but what.
700,000 shekels a year, all the senior officials of the municipality and his friends in the ruling gang flew non-stop - twin cities, community meetings, to study railroads. All the main excuse is not to be in the city that he destroyed to the core and put in a deficit of a billion shekels from the lateral corruption in the municipality.
You're not coming back Yahav, period.
    post Scriptum.
It's interesting how the city cell phone database for text message harassment got to him.

  5. Hello R
To your question... any swimming with sharks is fraught with danger.
There are rules that I have personally adopted over the years of swimming and diving with sharks.
Murky health swimming with sharks is not entirely safe.
    Do not feed sharks.
No sharp movements, boat jumps in the area with sharks.
Do not dive into shoals of fish in a shark-infested area.
The sharks in Hadera are still wild animals, and feed on prey... so I advocate a method that respects the animals, and this also applies to all animals in the wild.

  6. Hello God.
It has nothing to do with what you wrote.
Fish contains omega three, calcium and iodine.
    And that's great for everyone.

  7. Can you expand on 'swim with sharks', you wrote to keep your distance..
Is swimming near species that you have not listed as dangerous,
Like the species in the Hadera area: finches and sparrows, is she safe?

  8. Good morning Emmanuel.
In Israel and in most of the world, the law is observed.
    But there are unruly countries.
When you catch such a ship loaded with such goods, you simply burn it and its owner is sent to prison. But not in international waters.
    but

  9. Man is more dangerous than the shark
to make a soup from fin cruelty for its name where is the um where? Where are the animal organizations?
