(Hai Fe) - The District Court in Haifa today (Monday 27/11/23) sentenced Kosai Abbas to 17 years in prison, who was convicted of acts of terrorism, attempted murder and other offenses in the "Guardian of the Walls" events in May 2021.
The District Court in Haifa, composed of Judges Yechiel Lifshitz, Galit Ziegler and Shmuel Mandelbaum, unanimously sentenced Kosai Abbas, 23, a resident of Acre, to 17 years in prison, after he was convicted of the crime of a terrorist act of attempted murder, as well as other crimes, in connection with one of the "Guardian of the Walls" events that took place in Acre In May 2021. This is one of the most difficult cases from the "Guardian of the Walls" events, during which Mor Gianshuili was subjected to a brutal and violent lynching during which rioters attacked him by kicking, throwing stones and sticks, and his car was set on fire.
Gianshuili was driving his car and was on his way to visit his mother who lived near the scene of the attack. When he approached the mother's residence, his vehicle was attacked with a shower of stones, he lost control of the vehicle and tried to escape, but the crowd - including the defendant - continued to attack him even when Moore collapsed injured on the ground. The accused at that stage continued and hit Gianshuili, using a table leg on his head. The rioters and the accused stopped beating Mor only after the intervention of Sheikh Abbas Zakor who demanded them to do so.
The court referred to the seriousness of the defendant's actions, reviewed the ruling on the matter and the standards for punishment established in the ruling of the Supreme Court, and ultimately sentenced the defendant to 17 years in prison, as well as additional punishment components that include compensation to the victim in the amount of NIS 180,000.
