(haipo) Technion retirees were hurt by not being invited to take part in the event planned to take place in about 10 days to mark the Technion's 100th anniversary. The management of the Technion informed that the retirees will be invited to another event that will be held this year.
Anger among the pensioners
"There is an event for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Technion on 12/10," one of the retirees told us today, "the retirees were not invited to the event. Those who built the Technion and those who helped receive the Nobel Prize were not invited. There is anger among the retirees. We appealed to the president of the Technion, to the CEO and to the HR manager. They said that on Hanukkah there would be a ceremony for us on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Technion. We said this is not acceptable to us, and we need to be at the event. We have 1,600 retirees at the Technion, of which 500 are nursing and the rest are active retirees. We have two 100 year old retirees.
It's absurd what the Technion management is doing... We told the committees that they should represent us, but everyone is doing their own thing and they are not ready to help. We told them that they should say that if we retirees don't come to the ceremony, they won't come themselves, but they didn't accept it. The retirees regularly have an event at the Technion on Hanukkah, so when we wanted to join the 100th event this year, they said ours would be an event on Hanukkah.
"It's not fun to be a retiree in Israel today"
Too many people at the event
"The management of the Technion said that there were too many people at the event and there is a safety problem," explains the retiree, "It really upsets people. It's just a shame. The feeling is that they used us and threw us away now. This is how they behave. This is a norm in Israel.
For 20 years they have not increased the old-age pension, pensions have not increased since 2013. There is long-term care insurance at the HMO, a nursing elderly person receives 5,000 NIS a month. So now 1,000 NIS is deducted from this amount. It's really vile that hurts pensioners. We worked at the Technion for 35-40 years. Pensioners are being hurt left and right. It's not fun being a retiree today in Israel."
As mentioned, on 12/10 the Technion will mark the 100th anniversary of its establishment with a festive ceremony. The academic and administrative staff were invited to the ceremony. The ceremony will take place at the Technion in the heart of the campus and will include congratulations, a ceremony for outstanding people and a performance by Mashina.

The head of the pensioners' lobby list for the Haifa City Council, Israel Savion, said to Lahi Pa:

I really hope that the management of the Technion will take into account the satisfaction of the retirees, and I want to believe that it was a bona fide mistake and things will be fixed. Technion retirees are the glory of the State of Israel and the city of Haifa, and they deserve the appreciation and recognition they deserve. The pensioners' lobby salutes them."
