Cliché was ignored, Atos responded: under pressure from the pensioners' lobby - a 50% discount for Israeli films at the festival

(Advertisement on behalf of the pensioners' lobby to the city council)

The management of Athos, the producer of the International Film Festival in Haifa, responded to the request of the Haifa Pensioners' Lobby and agreed to give every old resident of the city a 50% discount on tickets to the Israeli films screened at the festival.

Seven Israeli films are screened at the festival, including Avi Nesher's new and talked-about film, "Gan Kofim", for which, according to the publication, all the tickets for all his screenings have already been sold.

Last week, the lobby demanded that the mayor, Einat Kalish Rotem, and Migal Zaevi, CEO of Atos, give retired residents a 50% discount on all films at the festival, as is customary at many similar festivals around the world. The lobby even threatened to issue an "action order" to Ethos, which would oblige it to grant the discount if it did not do so. It should be noted that the law in Israel requires granting a 50% discount to senior citizens for Israeli films.

Mayor Kalish ignored the request and until this moment did not reply to her. Whereas Zeevi agreed to the request and announced this weekend to Finney and Geman, a member of the lobby and No. 2 on its list for the city council, that the festival will indeed sell tickets to the Israeli films at half price to the old residents.

Finney and Geman, one of the leaders of the pensioners' lobby:

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, Einat Kalish once again chose, in her own way, not to address the request of the pensioners' lobby at all, and this shows her general attitude towards the veteran residents of her city. To our delight, the Athos management agreed to give a discount to Israeli films, as required by law, and we thank them for that. Without the pressure we exerted, this would not have happened. Here it is proven once again that the pensioners' lobby is the voice of the older population in Haifa and fights for its rights, fearlessly and without prejudice face.
