The Coast of Carmel, Yakneam and Nof Galil are three of the big winners of the "Grinten" competition for the selection of the green authorities in the State of Israel for 2023. The Coast of Carmel was crowned as the greenest regional council in the country, the Municipality of Nof HaGalil received a special award of excellence for gardening and shading, and Yakneam won the shield of the Green Authority of "Grinten" , in the competition held for the 16th time.

The competition between local authorities, regional councils, moshavim and kibbutzim was in aspects of encouraging green construction, environmental education, water conservation, gardening and cleaning, green energy, recycling and energy efficiency. In recent months, a special committee examined the various authorities that registered for the competition in all aspects, including electricity reports, water consumption, use of solar energy, etc. alongside documents from the Ministry of the Environment and the Central Bureau of Statistics.

The judging committee was chaired by Prof. Avner Adin, from the Center for Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Hebrew University. The other members of the committee are Giora Freud, Danny Morgenstern, Moshe Cohen and Yair Farjon.
Additional awards at the ceremony
During the ceremony, other awards were handed out: Dimona was awarded as the greenest city in Israel, Kiryat Gat Municipality received an award for energy efficiency and use of renewable energy, Beer Tovia Regional Council for water and wastewater treatment, Emek Hefer Regional Council for using green transportation and Ashdod for environmental education.

The 'Grinten' competition is an important economic-environmental tool for the local authority, which will bring it to smart and well-maintained construction, supply of clean air, quality water, clean and economical energy, protection from floods, advanced transportation and resource recycling, and in general - achieving a good and sustainable quality of life for its citizens.
