The tragedy of the children of Kiryat Haim

Many parents and their children came to Ahi Eilat Street in Kiryat Haim today to protest the way the renovation of the Maginin school is being managed. As I recall, about a year ago it was decided that the school building was not safe and this year the students studied in 3 different buildings. The parents received assurances that the students would be able to partially return to school , but according to them, the renovation could have been done in a much more efficient way.

Ziv Peishman is a social activist from Kiryat Haim, a member of the board of the Kiryat Haim Board and father of two children in the defenders: "We protective parents will not rest and will not be silent until we know what exactly is going to happen to the school!! We demand full transparency from the municipality. It is not possible that we only discuss the school for a whole year and nothing moves! It's selfishness."

intend to use the old windows

"When they talk about 20 million, it's about 12 million NIS that have already been approved," explains the chairman of the school board Baruch Shamailov, "2.5 million NIS is for future planning. Now what they approved is 5.3 million which is for the benefit of two shelters, which the Home Front Command demanded of them in order to approve occupancy and money so that it would be possible to work two shifts.

The budget was not considered, in favor of replacing all the windows in the building, they intend to use the old windows. They did not take into account the issue of sealing in the roofs. In the first winter, all the hard work will go down the drain, when there will be leaks."

What about the development issue?

Baruch Shmailov: "There is a huge area here, which needs to be developed (gutters, infrastructure, development of the area). My assessment is that a few more millions are needed for the renovation to be successful and for the area to be opened properly. The purpose of the demonstration is to protest the procrastination and the indifference and the amateurish behavior of the municipality in the area. We will not be ready for them to spare the backs of the children. Of course, the demonstration is also because of the lack of cooperation."

"Currently, a partial return to the school building is promised (some of the students will return). One of the buildings (the central wing) will be renovated by September 1st. Two buildings have been destroyed, on one side they are putting old buildings and on the other side the new building will be built in the future"
