St. George's Church in Haifa and the photos of the bride and groom

The Church of St. George is located at the Hubert Humphrey wharf, in front of the Ein Hayam neighborhood, a few hundred meters from the Institute for the Study of the Seas and Lakes that we told about last week.

St. George

George is considered the most important saint in Orthodox Christianity. He lived between the end of the third century and the beginning of the fourth century. He is the patron of several countries such as England, Georgia (of course), Ethiopia, Montenegro, Lita and Catalonia. He is also the patron of cities like Moscow - where a magnificent church is dedicated to him -  Genoa and others.

Beginning in the 12th century, legends based on what is told in the vision of John in the New Testament, where the war of the minister of angels, Michael Batnin, is described. According to the legends, Georgios saved a girl from a cruel dragon and killed him. The body of St. George was brought to his grave in Lod, his mother's hometown, where a Church of St. George the Dragon Slayer (Mar Jeris Church).

the church building

The church, which belongs to the Royal Greek-Catholic Church, was built in the 1940s by the bishop Georgios Hajar Under his influence, churches were built in a number of other sites on the island such as Bejish (Gush Halab), Kfar Yasif, Paki'in, Shafaram and more. The structure, built on a simple rectangular base and the sad interior are influenced by Russian ecclesiastical architecture. The roof of the church is double-arched, as the facade also testifies. The main entrance to the building is on the west (sea) side and the altar faces east.

About a year ago, a long renovation process was completed, which was made possible with the help of donations raised among the community of believers in Israel and abroad.

A website for bride and groom photos

The natural beauty of the beach, the simple building of the church standing out against the background of the blue sky, the Carmel overlooking the sea from above, all in a pastoral atmosphere have made the site popular among couples about to get married and photographers of the bride and groom. Indeed, travelers in the area are guaranteed to meet smiling couples in their best shirts posing for the wedding album. Mazel Tov!
