(lives here on the beaches) - Kiryat Haim beach has become dangerous for bathing, after sand feeding has not yet been carried out this year, so that a significant part of its area is disabled due to the "milling" that took place there. Haifa's Green Movement contacted Hani (Israel Ports Company), which is responsible for carrying out the feeding of the sand, demanding that they take care of the issue immediately and return 75 thousand cubic meters of sand to the shores of the Gulf and Kiryat Haim.
As you may recall, just a few days ago the article by the marine researcher Motti Mendelson was published in Hai Pa, about the condition of Kiryat Haim beach following the massive retreat of the sand that is taking place there, and about the fact that a large part of the beach area has been blocked off and shut down due to its danger to bathers, and this precisely now, after the bathing season has begun.
But in fact, even earlier, last March, another article by Mendelsohn on the subject was published in Hai Pa, in which the marine researcher pointed out the worsening that has been occurring in recent years with regard to the lack of sand on the beaches, and even noted that this year the phenomenon has arrived earlier. In light of this, Mendelsohn expressed astonishment that the feeding of sand on the shores of the Gulf has not yet begun.
Of these, we should also mention what happened last year in the month of August, when bathers at Kiryat Haim Beach found themselves swimming and wading in water that they described as oily and unpleasant to the touch, to say the least, which turned out in retrospect to be a temporary result of sand feeding that was carried out some time before, at the height of the bathing season . Councilwoman Hila Lauper even submitted a query on the matter to the city council.
The mayoral candidate Avihu Han and his faction member Moti Blitzblau sent a sharp letter this morning (Sun. 4/6/23) to the Minister of Transportation Miri Regev, in which they requested that the Minister demand that Hani (Israel Ports Company) immediately return 75 thousand cubic meters of sand to the shores of the Gulf and Kiryat Haim.
In the letter, Hahn and Blitzblau stated that in 2014, when Hani began promoting the establishment of the Gulf Port through the SIPG company, it was members of the Green faction of Haifa who strongly opposed it and claimed that sand mining from the shores of Haifa Bay and Kiryat Haim would cause severe damage to the seashores. According to them, the Israeli government and the planning director did not heed their warnings and rejected their proposal outright, and instead of bringing millions of cubic meters of sand for the purpose of building the harbor pier, they decided to pump the sand from the shores of the gulf, with the condition being the flow of 75000 cubic meters of sand to these beaches.
"Almost every year we struggle, and this year as well, so that the sand is supplied as promised, but in response we are met with total disregard," Hahn and Blitzblau wrote to the Minister of Transportation. "The bathing season has started and for some reason they "forgot" the dumping of sand on the shores of Haifa Bay. That's why we ask for your immediate intervention to act so that Hani will immediately release hundreds of thousands of cubic meters to the shores of the Gulf, so that the residents of Kiryat Haim and the Kiryats will have a reasonable bathing season in 2023."
They also added: "The state of Kiryat Haim's beaches is in dire straits. The beaches are disappearing and the residents of Kiryat Haim and the Kiryats are facing a reality where there are no beaches, the sea is biting almost everything."
In the meantime, Hahn and Blitzblau submitted a query to the city council in which they demanded answers to the mayor's puzzling silence: "Why doesn't the mayor demand that the Israel Ports Company (HANI) fulfill its commitment and pour 75000 cubic meters of sand into the beaches of Kiryat Haim at the very beginning of the bathing season?" they wondered. "Why does the mayor, who believes in the needs of the residents, not act immediately?"
Claims about the color of the sand
In response to the Greens' letter, the Ministry of Transportation stated that the Hani company has long been prepared to dump 150,000 cubic meters, with a dedicated dredger and a work team, a project with a budget of about NIS 6 million, and this, approximately every year, after the Ministry of Environmental Protection approved the dumping.
The factor preventing the feeding of the sand, the ministry said, is the administration of the Haifa municipality which does not approve the dumping (feeding the sand), due to claims in the matter the color of the sand"This is according to the Ministry of Transportation. "As mentioned, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Hani work every year to measure the condition of the beaches to determine the amounts of sand feeding, to locate a suitable source of sand and to conduct quality tests regarding possible pollutants."
Israel Ports Company reported:
"Hanai has been ready and prepared for a long time to start the job of dumping the sand, after the sand was approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Unfortunately, the mayor of Haifa, Einat Kalish Rotem, is the one who is delaying and preventing the throwing of sand."
To the contractors who bring sand and probably steal it from another place while ecologically destroying another habitat.
You have already destroyed the sea with the promenades and the construction. Let him and us and the rest of the environment.
Sad and indignant, without a caring response to the residents who pay dearly, simply not fair.
The beaches in Israel are polluted. good week
The seashores in Israel are polluted, keep your soul away. Hospitalization for two weeks with intravenous antibiotics.
One of the great successes of the Likud governments led by Bibi was to concentrate the state's garbage and filth in the Haifa Bay, according to the plans the refineries and other polluting oil industries had to be eliminated and an airport could be built in their place. The sand of Chaya Bay is saturated with petroleum oil and other carcinogenic substances. And believe me, I have nothing to do with the mayor or the other influential people, but I would not enter the waters of Kiryat Haim Beach and bathe in them. The water in your toilets is cleaner and safer.
Politics at the expense of the residents, in the end they will feed sand in the middle of the bathing season and the breeding season of the fish so that everyone will be hurt by your media spin!
One wise man who will do it in a time when the beaches are not used much by bathers and animals and will save the situation, but in the meantime who mobilizes more votes and sends chained letters
They allowed the Chinese to take over two ports in Israel, for 25 years
Allow the Israel Hani Ports Company to take over Shemen Beach and Admiralty areas and turn them into the "City of Ports", an ex-territory of Haifa and one that destroys the beaches and the metropolitan park, prevents Haifa from property taxes on its territory (Yona Yahav's failure with the permission of the Gulf Port) and creates an impassable buffer between Parts of Haifa, a buffer that keeps expanding.
And of course the damage to the beaches of Kiryat, which I remember very well that the Greens in the council headed by Aviahu Han specifically warned that every year the beaches in Kiryat will go and lose the transport of sand to them and will need a tremendous amount of Shabbat sand. And wonder and wonder, some of the sand in the settlement is also polluted, after the Israeli governments turned the Kishon estuary into the national sewer (while tens of millions of shekels are being purified of the Yarkon and removing all the pollutants near it). Tel Aviv has finished removing all the polluters from it: fuel tanks, the Sharon plant, the gas farm in Gilolit, the Shlishoth compound, the garbage mountain in Jaffa and more. And in Haifa at the same time, an increasing destruction of the Kishon environment and the coastline was planned. There are no breakwaters. No hotel development There is no marina.
The leaders of the Kiryats (from the right) are holding a contest to see who flatters the governments more instead of demanding billions in the development of the Kiryat coastline and the removal of the 1959 fuel farm. Remember - those tanks were removed by Tel Aviv. The polluters along the coast were removed by Tel Aviv. In Haifa and Kiryat Yona Yahav turned a blind eye And he fell asleep in the office and did not act to look after the interests of Haifa. He signed the cursed Gulf port without alternatives, without worrying about property taxes from it, without worrying about minimizing damage to the bridges in the Kishon to the port, without anything. Amram Mitzna destroyed the Carmel beach with the ugly towers and Yona Yahav destroyed the beaches of the Kiryat - We should tell the truth to the face.. because they both think they were wonderful and successful and they destroyed Haifa's beach.
