(haipo) - In an exciting ceremony, on Friday 19/5/23, two Swallow model boats were inaugurated at the Haifa Sailing Club. The boats were launched in memory of the victims of the submarine "Dakar" when the families of the victims were also present. The boats will be used by apprentice sailors and boys and girls with special needs, for whom the Pacific Coast Sailing Club is their second home.
Shmulik Wagner, a former Navy man, opened the ceremony of donating the two swallows with a traditional whistle. In a special recording that journalist Eran Shurer brought with him and revealed during the ceremony, the crew members can be heard singing together a song written by the late Ran Shimon, who was a machine gun officer in Dakar. Shurer himself sailed with the submarine Dakar from the port of Forestamot to Gilbert, from where he continued his flight to Israel.
