Vandalism on the Stella Maris scenic path in Haifa

A bench that was there was vandalized and signs that were embedded in the concrete were thrown to the ground. City resident Tal Kizman (60) makes a weekly trip to the Stella Maris observatory. Last weekend she saw the sights and was shocked.

The Stella Maris ridge includes a horn, which has a device that tells about the area in three languages. Under the bird you can enter the cable car. There are restaurants and a cafe on site. On the west side there is a military base, to the left of which there is a road that descends, with the help of stairs, to the Eliyahu Cave and from there to the beach.
It is difficult to see the view from the birdhouse itself, because fences that hide the view were built about ten years ago.

It is easier to see the view from the path, which descends from the birdhouse - the starfish path - Stella Maris. The bench is about a hundred meters below the trailhead, below the military base.

Kizman says that the vandalized bench was given as a donation

"It seems very unsightly to me, that they damaged it. The signs are on behalf of some body. I think it's very inappropriate to destroy something that was built in someone's memory, it's like someone's memory space. People sat there and enjoyed themselves, it was the coolest place, a place where people sat Go alone and look at the view. It was a place to be alone. Those who sat on the bench respected him and did not sit next to him. Now there is nowhere to sit."

"I go up to the mountain once a week and that's why I noticed the damage. Many families go up to the Mitzvah Stella Maris. You can go up from the Eliyahu cave or go down from the Stella Maris. There are steps carved into the mountain. There are also water reservoirs along the way. When you go up the steps you can see two small caves for collecting rainwater ( cistern).

Last weekend I went up to the Mitzvah Stella Maris and on the stairs from the Eliyahu Cave to Stella Maris and after passing the Holy Family Chapel I discovered this act of vandalism. It saddened me. Since I belong to several groups of nature lovers, I wrote in the groups and received many responses.

Young people who come to the place and smoke there

"One of the commenters said that there is a group of young people who come to the place and smoke there. It hurts me very much to see the vandalism of something beautiful that was there. It is impossible to do beautiful things in Israel. It is vandalism of public property. There are many, many benches being put up in the city now, and it is so beautiful And happy. If they are destroyed, it's a little sad and says that no one is taking care of the beautiful things that were donated."

"There is vandalism that the pigs do," Kizman adds, "for example, turning over the bin, so they took out the bin, which was in place. But a bench, removing its backrest, is not an act of pigs, it is human vandalism. I expect someone to finance the renovation of the bench and beyond There is nothing to be done about it. The stairs, which lead down from the observatory, are also not maintained. There is a lot of erosion (sludge) and some of the stairs are very high. Some of the stairs have collapsed. These are stairs that for years clergymen go up and down there alongside the rest of the population and endanger themselves.

There are many families with small children who travel there. The stairs are very high for small children. If they cultivate them a little and add missing stairs, many people will be able to enjoy the nature there. The place is very close to the city and public transportation. You can take a nap at a nearby cafe."

"The signs that were removed are signs of coexistence. Someone didn't like the signs and uprooted them. It is written in 3 languages. The signs sink into the concrete and someone took them out with the concrete and laid them down and also sabotaged the signs themselves. It's a shame because it was one of the most beautiful and magical paths in Haifa. It connects the religions between the Eliyahu Cave and the Stella Maris Monastery."

  1. This is a gem, a meeting of Minzer Magdalor, the restaurants that were established there have taken over public areas and turned the Mitzvahr into their territory under the auspices of mafia elements in the corrupt Haifa municipality. The complex is located in an area of international electromagnetic lines and a stunning view. with a guard and collect entrance fees to one of the most beautiful places in Israel,

  2. Usually vandalism in the city is thanks to our cousins who live in Huadi and friends from the surrounding villages. Now all the beauties of the soul will arise over me. Some will say I'm racist, some will say I'm generalizing. Others will excuse it by not taking care of them for employment, activities and the rest of the constant regret. But bottom line, they are responsible for the vandalism that happens in all these places (I suggest to those who disagree with me to go by those places at night and see with their own eyes, the list of places is known to everyone) and thus harm both their population and lower the quality of the city. You can take the Arab out of a village (into a city), but you can't take the village out of the Arab. Bat Galim promenade, the end of the world in Carmelia, the birdhouse in Stella Maris and many other places. Go at night and see with your own eyes and with your ears. Violating the rest of the residents with music, smoking, wild driving and shouting……the reason they come to these places is because they can't behave like that in their neighborhoods.

  3. During the Yahav period, they approved the construction in front of the Mitzpoor and simply blocked the view. what a waste

  4. On the weekends, our cousins from the Galilee arrive with improved cars and improved motorcycles, drive at crazy speeds and make explosive noises from their pressure exhausts, and on the way they smash and break every beautiful place in this city, look what they do on the Lui Promenade every weekend, the main thing is the cameras of the municipality.

    • The city patrol from Colclish was canceled a long time ago
And the Coastal Police is unable to operate minimal patrols
McCollish created the hijinks and the harassment and the disturbance on the roads and promenades in Haifa.

  5. We were on Sunday indeed a lovely place and the bench was destroyed too bad. At the same time, all the garbage from the bin was outside and it's clear that it's garbage from the restaurants. Their attention should be raised so that they check every morning and clean it.

  6. I live here, I have a question why do we mention our cousins by their real name Arabic, don't you publish the response? This is the truth. Arabic people's of Haifa destroyed us beautiful city

  7. The place there has long since been destroyed. The water cisterns are not networked, there is a pile of construction waste near the Eliyahu Cave that has not been cleared for years. Like everything else the municipality is simply not interested, at this rate in another decade I think it will be impossible to live in the city. But then again, nobody really cares. Everything is already so rotten that only a complete replacement of all the municipality's employees and a complete replacement of all the contractors employed by the municipality, who suck the public coffers with a license and do not work, will change anything. And you know it won't happen. This city is long gone.

  8. Every few months I would lead foreign tourists, foreign students from the university along this path. I always liked to show them a piece of nature where not too much construction was done, or what was done in the past like the bunkers somehow got swallowed up in the landscape. Of course we started with the San Francisco Bird. When the owner of the restaurant changed, his takeover of the place began under the auspices of his friend Uri Blum (Yahav's advisor and later the head of the culture division) who trained him to destroy the Mitzpofar - they plugged in air conditioners and created a fence that hides the view of the city from visitors. Since then I have only taken people for Stella Maris only. It is worth noting that the entrance to the cable car was always dirty - full of dirt, vandalism. Really disgusting and a shame to show tourists the cable car going down from this point. So we skipped that too in the end. In recent years, the neglect and vandalism of the path has been added. Graffiti is currently vandalizing the Lui Promenade, the Panorama Towers Promenade, and Gan Ham. Graffiti also marred the Stella Maris area, vandalism, littering, potholes that the municipality forgot for years without finishing the work, steps that were deliberately covered with dirt and stones to cause slippage. There is no place and path more beautiful than this path around the Carmel shoulder and it is all neglected and full of dirt and thorns and neglect and vandalism.
This is just the story of one place in Haifa. Graffiti inscriptions in recent days have defaced as mentioned the entire length of the Carmel. Those marchers who claim that they are the beautiful and conscientious Israel that protects the land from destruction are hurling political slogans and rioting and breaking. This truth needs to be told. Not the ultra-orthodox, not the religious, not the rightists are the biggest vandals in this story. There is a very specific camp in the extreme left whose ideology is to sow destruction.
