Sergeant Assaf Levin, 21 years old from Kiryat Bialik, was awarded the distinction of commander of the naval arm on the 75th Independence Day of the State of Israel.
Even before his enlistment, Assaf demonstrated perseverance and diligence when he expanded his software engineering and physics subjects in high school, at the same time as he was a competitive swimmer for 12 years. Asaf would practice swimming nine times a week, participating in training camps in Israel and abroad and in national and international competitions.
Assaf said about the recruitment to the sea arm: "I wanted to get to the sea arm because even after I heard a lot about family life in the various teams."
After a formation transition to a fin unit and challenging training, Assaf began his service in a fin unit under the 914th Northern Regular Security Squadron.
"I served in a variety of positions on the Wasp, the unit's vessel, until I advanced and became commander of the Wasp 236, it was a significant and instructive position," Assaf said.
A fin unit in the 914 Emunah fleet is responsible for the security of the civilian and military port in Haifa, in addition to securing strategic assets and sometimes also carries out activities in the northern sea borders. Among the tasks of the unit - performing inspections for all vessels entering the ports, performing unique marine experiments and participating in rescue events.
Today Sgt Assaf Levin is in an officers course and is expected to return to the unit as the deputy commander. "The love and the feeling that I still have something to contribute to the security of the country and the advancement of the unit are the things that led me to join the army," he said.
