(haipo) - The maritime police unit of the Israel Police rescued yesterday (Saturday 15/4/23, time 9:30), a kayaker who was swept into the sea, when his kayak filled with water and was in danger of drowning.
Last night, in the morning, a strong easterly wind blew - an offshore wind sweeping into the heart of the sea.
Before you go to sea, you are invited to go to Hai Pa's meteorological forecast page - for sailors and surfers:

The maritime policing unit informed Lahi Pa:
The Maritime Police Unit of the Israel Police was called yesterday (Saturday) to the Carmel Beach in Haifa, upon receiving a report at the Coastal District Headquarters, regarding fear for the life of a kayaker who was swept into the sea, when the kayak filled with water and was in danger of sinking.
In the meantime, the coastal district's marine police team began searching for the kayak, until it was located about half a mile from the shore.
The members of the unit brought the yacht onto the maritime police ship, emptied the kayak that was filled with water using professional equipment and escorted the yacht until it arrived safely at the shore.
The police once again emphasize the importance of correct and safe sailing, which includes:
- Sailing with partners while being equipped with means of communication.
- Leaving a contact "out of the water" - for reporting when necessary
- Carrying a mobile phone in a waterproof device
- Transverse surfing to the coastline at the required distance, which allows independent return when necessary.
- When life is in danger - immediate report to Moked 100 - the Israel Police's emergency hotline.
The kayak paddler (whose name is withheld in the system) told Haifa:
We went fishing on another normal day with the kayaks.
After a while, an easterly wind started blowing at a speed of 12-14 knots, which made it difficult for the fisherman, so we chose to return to the shore. The wind kind of surprised us, since it had already dropped completely, as in the forecast, and a westerly wind even came in for 20 minutes.
We paddled to the beach and after we reached a distance of about 700 meters from the shoreline, I noticed that I had a technical failure in the kayak and it caused a small part of it to fill with water. I made a decision to stop on the spot, to stay in the same situation, which does not endanger me and the equipment, and to call the police, so that they call one of the lifeguards, to drag me a few hundred meters to the beach.
For some reason they called the maritime police and they got to me very quickly!
The kayak was tied to the boat and I got on it. After that, I drained the water from the problematic part and returned to the kayak to continue paddling to the shore and the event was over.
Within 10 minutes I was already at the beach.
A huge aspiration for maritime policing, a professional and very humane team, honest to the whole unit and the volunteers in the unit
good sailing good week
