(haipo) - A number of casualties tonight at the Haifa Grand Mall, as a result of the explosion of a gas cylinder in one of the restaurants. Following the explosion, a fire broke out on the spot. The incident was handled by Haifa station firefighters and ended during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, 23/3/23. Three people were injured in the explosion, two in a serious/moderate condition and one in a minor condition. The injured were taken to the hospitals in the city.
A flammability investigator published this morning the circumstances of the explosion: Pre-sealing work was done on the spot. One of the workers was working with a sledgehammer and hit a gas pipe which was connected to a gas beehive and from there the fire broke out. 2 sprinklers burst and prevented the spread of the fire, in addition to a water line of the firefighters, who also monitored the burning until it was finally extinguished.
The Haifa News Corporation reported from the Haifa Grand Mall:
During sealing work that was carried out early in the morning in one of the cafes in the mall, a gas pipe was damaged and caught fire, injuring three workers who were carrying out the renovation work there. The injured workers suffered burns and were taken to the hospital for immediate treatment.
The management of the mall adheres to strict work and safety procedures and instructs the tenants to do so as well. The case will be examined and lessons will be learned.
The mall is operating as usual and will open this morning to visitors as usual.
