(live here in the wild) - After the article last week about the wild plants with medicinal properties growing in the natural forest of the Carmel, it was the turn of the mushrooms hidden among the bushes. I contacted Orlev Tzach, a nature tour guide and owner of the Facebook page "Orlev's Nature Diary", to hear about the many types of mushrooms that can be found near the house.
"A huge variety of weird and amazing mushrooms!"
Orlev Tsach: "We arrived at the Beit Hieran parking lot in Carmel Park with the goal of going down the Nahal Maapilim, until Yagor. But my plan had no chance of being realized: the pace of the trip was determined by the mushrooms. I have never seen such a variety of strange and amazing mushrooms!"
A reddish vault
"Reddish vaulter!!" I exclaimed in surprise as I was amazed in front of the pair of red mushrooms. To convince my friends that this was a place worth stopping, I pointed to the glowing purple flowers, "and look at some Sidonian romulias!"
Green-purple hynoma
The highlight was undoubtedly the relatively rare green-purple Hinoma mushroom. At first I thought I saw a small round rock, covered with a little moss; But a closer look revealed that it was a mushroom with a greenish cap, purple leaves, and a phosphorescent yellow colored leg and mycelium that would not put any marker to shame.
Mardaios for women
The list of strange mushrooms will not include the place of the white mushrooms. It's unpleasant to admit, but it took me a double-digit number of seconds to decide that it was indeed a huge cluster of mushrooms, and not toilet papers that got wet in the rain (sorry Mardaios...) What to do - their cap is twisted and formed in an improbable way!
Netupa Dorit
The "giant of the forest" award was given to one 20-cm-diameter Dorian Netupah. Next to it were other quite large Dorian Netupahs, with leaves full of drops that justify their oil.
lumps and spiciness
And the most beautiful, to our taste, were the perfect lumps, and the spicy ones with the red cap and the white leg; Although this is not the famous fly artist, which we don't have in Israel, the red-white color contrast worked its magic here as well.
And there is more…
And that wasn't all. At some point we stopped trying to identify each and every fungus, so we'll just mention that we also saw sedums, toadstools, toadstools, and a variety of other strange names for wonderful organisms. If you also want to identify mushrooms in the forest, we highly recommend joining the Facebook group "The Israeli Mushroom Group", which helped us with the identifications.
And of course, there is no shortage of blossoms either
The flowers didn't like it that we neglected our botanical interest like that, and they fought back: abundant purple of Sidonian rumolea and purple anemones, along with red anemones of course, beautiful Eretz Israel irises, chives and mints at the beginning of blooming, and even Italian valerian! This delicate and beautiful flower likes to grow in rocks and cliffs in the north of the country, and is one of the happy realities in my eyes.
How to get there?
The Israel Trail passes through Usafia and descends to Yegor through Nahal Ma'afilim. It's also worth wandering the paths of the Beit Hieran on the way. Our recommendation: take a cable car from the Gulf Center to Haifa University, and from there a bus to Usafia (37 A/54/55). It is recommended to use Google Maps.

- The article does not pretend to distinguish between an edible mushroom or a poisonous mushroom, with the exception of identifying the different types that grow in nature.
Nice. An impressive article, my friend Inbal Chen - Bargav. Shalom and blessed Sabbath.
It was irresponsible to state only at the end of the article that some of the mushrooms described could be poisonous. Not all readers reach the end of the article, so it is advisable to even mention this in the title.
Hi Eyal, how did we get from mushrooms to the Independence Day shows? However, following your words, we do try to do our best to expose the youth as well as the older population to nature and environmental issues through this modest column.
Children in Israel are not taught about mushrooms
They are cut off from the surrounding nature and do not know which ones are allowed to eat.
It knew that he even came here from the Soviet Ascension. picking mushrooms.
The only mushrooms that the youth know are the ones in the Super Mario game or as a topping on pizzas. There are also many mushrooms in the wadis between the neighborhoods.
Soon thousands of dunams will be destroyed for construction and roads in the remaining wadis.
When did you see an exhibition about mushrooms or nature in Haifa, say at Medatech or the municipality's initiative?
There is no more culture in Haifa. And what is in its place is the import of artists for hundreds of thousands of shekels by helicopter from the center who will come and dance in playback of some songs for Independence Day. This is a mandatory budget. And nature studies? Do not need. Open a mushroom picker. also them in Hebrew
Why don't they mention that the mushrooms are poisonous?
Hi Oded, thanks for the comment. To clarify the issue, we added a note to the article. It is definitely recommended to use the guide for identifying edible mushrooms.
