The mayor's directive to cancel parking tickets for showgoers at Romema Hall: "This extremely unusual step is not in line with the provisions of the law"
(haipo) - A letter was sent from the Ministry of Justice to the legal counsel of the Municipality of Haifa and to Mayor Einat Kalish Rotem, according to which the directive given by the Mayor to cancel parking tickets given to visitors to Eyal Golan's show at the Romema Sports Hall, does not fall under her authority.
Last Thursday night (2/2/23) a message was published late in the evening (23:41 p.m.) on behalf of the spokeswoman of the Haifa Municipality, according to which Mayor Kalish instructed the CEO of the municipality to cancel once and for all the parking reports registered that evening at the Romema sports hall complex, A performance by the singer Eyal Golan was held there.
According to the same announcement, it means that the show-goers, in the absence of available parking in the area, were forced to park their vehicles along the road. The decision was made, as noted in the spokeswoman's announcement, after the Haifa police chief confirmed in a conversation with the mayor that the vehicles did not cause a real disturbance to traffic or human life .
This morning (Tuesday 7/2/23), 5 days later, a clarification notice was published at 9:00 a.m., which came out, as it says, "following the partial publications that came out", in which it was stated that "the mayor's directive is valid only for those who parked along the road with the permission of officers police who were present at the scene", and not towards "drivers who parked wildly on public sidewalks and traffic islands", and in any case, it was noted, "the final decision is in the hands of the municipal prosecutor who will examine each report individually".
Either way, it turns out that the mayor has no authority to cancel parking tickets once they have been issued, according to a letter sent last night (Monday 6/2/23) from the State Attorney's Office to the Legal Bureau of the Haifa Municipality.

Hila Laufer, a member of the city council, gave Hai Fa in response:
The mayor proves time and time again that the law and the framework are only a recommendation for her. I wish she had a little compassion for good-hearted cat feeders who take care of the helpless and persecuted in the city of Haifa and receive fines of 730 NIS. I wish she had a little compassion for children on the autistic spectrum from whom she prevented many months from marine activity and finally yesterday decided that they should be allowed to return to their favorite activity about them. I wish she would get out of the eternal campaign slot she has been in for years and inside beyond the campaign, there is life, there are residents who trusted her to be the one to take care of them and the city. Even a populist proposal that seems to be designed to buy sympathy during her eternal campaign, she fails to implement.
Coming to this city much more!
In the run-up to the elections, populism's failed attempts to hide the state of the city at the pleasure of predatory residents and quick and ugly election bribery will increase.
Another six months to endure and we hope for a new and good start with a mayor who understands the limits of his role and powers and also what municipal enforcement is.
We are back to the count of the wise and prudent
For Hila Lauper, everything on earth is measured in relation to feeding stray cats, which is known to be problematic and not at all desirable.
Dear Haifas, when you vote for the lists, carefully check which people who are delusional in them, such as Lauper or Shuber, may enter the next council. We need engineers and industrialists, not cat feeders
Investigate the mayor, what is behind her illegal decision!
