This morning in Haifa, a brisk wind blew in Haifa while heavy storm clouds passed over the area. The clouds also rained heavy showers. At the same time, a number of professional kitesurfers came to surf the Bat Galim promenade, which is a center of attraction for Israel's best surfers during the winter storms.
Adi Daghani from Netanya, considered one of the most experienced kitesurfers in Israel, was a few hundred meters away from Bat Galim beach. Degani is known as the surfer who rescues other surfers who get into trouble in the middle of the sea. But now, when the wind stopped within seconds, his kite fell into the sea and he got himself into trouble. Gliding kites cannot stay in the air when the wind drops below 10 knots.
The surfer drifted slowly towards the east. At the same time, surfers who were standing on the beach called the Israel Police and the maritime police was called from its base in Haifa port. According to the surfers, within a few minutes the police arrived and quickly rescued him.
The surfers who were on the beach at the time pointed out the fact that the surf club at Bat Galim beach was closed about five years ago and since then Haifa has been left without a club and without a civilian rescue boat.
The Israel Police informed Lahi Pa: The coastal district marine police team was called to the rescue of two kite surfers who were adrift in front of Bat Galim beach, one managed to get out on his own and the other was adrift a mile from the beach.
The maritime police team with the help of guidance from the shore managed to locate the surfer and collected him on the ship. The condition of the surfer, a resident of Netanya in his thirties, is good and he did not need medical treatment.
