Attorney Yaniv Yaakov, CEO of the Green Or Association:

"The use of the cell phone is a scourge. Despite the advertising campaigns of the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety, many drivers still talk while driving with the phone in hand, read and write messages or browse social networks. The public is aware of the danger of using the phone while driving but is not afraid of using the phone because they know that the chance that a police officer will catch him is very small. The traffic police lacks 200 cars and lacks hundreds of police officers to create an effective deterrent. At the same time, it is time to integrate advanced electronic enforcement that will prevent those drivers who use their phones while driving from endangering the lives of all of us on the road. About the Minister of Transportation and Road Safety Implement the plan to reduce carnage on the roads, which will lead to a 50% reduction in fatalities within five years."

9% of the driving time while fiddling with the cell phone

A new observational study conducted in France found that truck drivers used their cell phones while driving an average of 9% of their driving time. The results of the observation were published by the European Road Safety Council (ETSC) in October 2022. The study was carried out by the independent research agency Cerema on behalf of the Association of French Intercity Road Companies (ASFA), and included the installation of internal and external cameras on truck cabs. Although the drivers were aware of the fact that their behavior was being recorded, many still used their cell phones while driving.

10 times an hour

Drivers used their cell phones an average of 10 times an hour for an average of 32 seconds. Each time the drivers took their eyes off the road for an average of 2.4 seconds. During the study, cases (extreme) of not looking at the road were observed for seven seconds in which the vehicle travels a distance of 60-175 meters, at a speed of 90 km/h, when the driver does not look at the road at all. The Association of French Highway Companies (ASFA), warned that Distracted driving has become more widespread since the outbreak of the corona epidemic.

  1. The police don't have a job, poor people are supplementing their income
So they are caught driving small crimes instead of highway robberies
And the improved cars that drivers go wild at night which in my humble opinion is more dangerous than a driver talking on a cell phone and no I don't think it's okay to text or talk but almost everyone is guilty of it.

    • Not looking at the road you're driving on is no less dangerous than driving at wild speed or drunk -
The chance of ending someone's life like this is equal in all cases.

How many reports have you read recently about a vehicle that overturned or a pedestrian who was hit by a moving vehicle?
Did you check how many of the drivers involved were on their phones?
You didn't check, you passed small.

  2. Revocation of a license is a heavy fine and a year later to start reissuing a license

  3. It's true fear of God it's really scary suddenly we drive behind a car it zigzags a bit on the road I keep my distance!! and drive slower. I don't know what the driver in front of me is doing.. they don't pay attention to crosswalks to stop signs to red signs.. we have to give a lot of reports about Shimtash on the cell phone.. Maybe this way human lives will be saved. In my personal opinion.

  4. Let them give a fine of NIS 10.000 for using the phone while driving, only then will the drivers stop endangering lives. I see taxi drivers and bus drivers fiddling with cell phones while driving, and of course private car drivers too. It is very dangerous and requires heavy fines!

  5. What electronic mechanisms for prevention. Don't sacrifice privacy in the name of preventing other drivers from being irresponsible.
