Hello dears, this is my grandmother and we continue to meet and get to know mature people, grandparents who do and initiate wonderful and inspiring things.
This time I arrived at the home of Pinchas Avhar, 88 years old from Haifa. Pinchas' house is pleasantly decorated, in a nostalgic style. His house joined us.
Pinchas Abhar
Pinchas was born in the Neve Tzedek neighborhood in Tel Aviv, and following his parents' divorce, he moved to study at Kibbutz Beit Alfa. At the end of his studies, he enlisted in military service in the armory, where he met his wife, a resident of Haifa. After their marriage he moved to Haifa.

Aid to teenagers in need
After his release, Pinchas worked at the youth employment service, where he held seminar days for the working and studying youth and where he became aware of the plight of boys with difficulties adjusting to school studies, boys who are expelled from their classes and relegated to the fringes of society, some to the street full of crime and drugs and some to the job market. The job market for these boys was not without its problems either. The employers took advantage of their plight, did not pay adequate salaries for their work, made them work illegal hours, and more.
Minimum wage for teenagers
During the Yom Kippur War, while he was on hold, he read in the "Davar" newspaper about setting a minimum wage for adults over the age of 18. A red light went on in Pinchas' head - if there is a minimum wage for adults, why is there no minimum wage for young people?
He wrote a grumpy letter to Yeruham Mashal, Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the General Histadrut, requesting to propose setting a minimum wage for working boys as well.
To his surprise, he was told that the matter would be examined positively. And, today there is a law that requires a minimum wage threshold for working youth as well.

Rights for working girls
In addition, Pinchas worked to defend also for additional rights of the working youth, especially the girls. Thus, when he found out that they were employed non-stop and without the possibility of studying at the same time, he initiated a girls' strike that ended with them getting a break from their work. In order for them to use this break for positive things, Pinchas founded a club for working girls.

"Education Friend" project
Pinchas Avhar retired at the age of 65.
After the death of his wife, Pinchas looked for a place to volunteer and contribute his experience working with children. Therefore, he started volunteering as part of the "Yidid for Education" project - retired volunteers in the education system. Pinchas began volunteering at the Jezreeliya school, where he provides an emotional response to children in need and a warm and embracing envelope. Little by little, the children became attached to him, and some even regretted going on vacation when they realized that during it they would not see Pinchas. In one of the cases, Pinchas was "called to the flag" to help one of the children he tutored, for one the child entered the 7th grade, and in the division they had difficulty dealing with the behavior problems that had resurfaced for him.
Minister of Education Award
Throughout his years of activity, Pinchas received many certificates of appreciation from official bodies - the Histadrut and the Minister of Education Award. Despite his age, Pinchas radiates endless patience for troubled children and constantly emphasizes that school is not a babysitter, but a place for learning and not for education, so the parents are the ones responsible for the education. Unfortunately, he knew many forms of families whose parents do not devote enough time to their children, and the results are evident in the field.
To my question: In conclusion, do your grandchildren receive tips and advice from you for appropriate behavior and studying at school? Pinchas replied - "I always make sure that theirs will be what mine was not."
I thank Pinchas and his house for opening a window for me to his world of volunteering.
