(haipo) - Many important budget items were not approved in the finance committee that was held last night (Sunday 24/10/22), after according to the chairman of the committee, Sofi Nakash, the mayor ordered the professionals who were invited to the meeting, not to participate in it.
Budgets were approved to support the sports associations
The finance committee, chaired by city council member Sophie Nakash, met last night and approved budgets on a number of issues. Among other things, a budget addition of two million shekels was approved for support for sports associations. Twenty million shekels for the construction of a sports hall at the "Hogi" school and budgets are required for the Pacific Coast, totaling 521,500 shekels, so that as far as the Pacific Coast is concerned there is now no obstacle for the mayor to sign agreements with the sailing club.
Along with the few important approvals that were approved, an in-depth discussion of requested changes involving tens of millions of shekels was avoided, as well as approvals of many budget items, as mentioned, due to the absence of the professional elements from the committee, according to the chairman of the committee, Sofi Nakash.
For the purpose of operating the Pacific Coast, until the end of the year 2022, a budget of 126,000 was approved for ongoing maintenance. 165,000 shekels for expenses needed to adjust to an estimated license only from 2021, and 164,500 for miscellaneous expenses.
The chairman of the finance committee, Sophie Naksh, said to Hai Pa:
"The members of the finance committee gathered and arrived in time to hold the meeting, but almost all of the items that were brought were not approved, because according to a legal opinion given in 2020, the professional body must come to the meeting and explain the nature of the items. But as soon as the mayor guided all the professional bodies not to come, in practice only the treasurer and the legal advisor remained, and when we asked professional questions about each section they did not know how to answer, therefore we could not vote because we did not receive a detailed explanation.
The mayor, under her directive to prevent the professional parties from coming, acts and sabotages the conduct of the finance committee and the day-to-day conduct of the city. In the past, when the professional team arrived, almost all sections were approved. But when we do not have a clear explanation of what exactly we are voting on, we (committee members) cannot vote. Finance committee members are not a rubber stamp, this is public money and it's a shame that the mayor doesn't internalize it. It's a shame that the mayor acts out of personal motives and sabotages the further functioning of the city and harms the residents."
