City Center • The Dick Family's All-In-One Incarnation

The City Center building is located in the northern part of the German colony, at the intersection of Ben Gurion Boulevard and Jaffa Streets and its address is 6 Ben Gurion Boulevard. Dick's Department Store According to the 1882 map of the German colony, on the lot on which the City Center building was built, the large trading house of the Templar family Abram Duck was located. The Dick family was one of the wealthiest in the German colony and their residence - at 8 Ben Gurion Boulevard - was one of the largest and most luxurious in the colony. Later, their sons, who continued the family tradition, were among the largest merchants in Haifa. The family ran a kind of department store that sold a variety of products, from everyday products to agricultural machinery. Among its regular customers were also Jewish settlers from the northern colonies. Agronomist Aaron Aaronson from Zichron Yaakov worked for a time as an agent at Dick's trading house, before devoting himself to his scientific and political work. In a 1984 photograph of...

An Arab population lives in all of Haifa - but there are Arab schools only in the lower city

(haipo) - In Haifa, a Jewish population and an Arab population live side by side. In almost every residential neighborhood you can find a state elementary school for the Jewish population. A six-year school can be found in several central areas of the city. On the other hand, the Arab population usually has to travel a long distance in order to reach the kindergartens or the schools. This is especially noticeable when children reach middle school and want to attend a school that is intended for the Arab population.

All schools in one place

In Haifa, all the six-year schools for the Arab population are located in the lower city. It doesn't matter if the child lives in the Kabvir neighborhood, in the center of Carmel or in Benaot Peres, he will have to take two buses in the morning to get to school.

Over the years, the Arab residents of Haifa have complained about the level of the schools intended for their population, and claimed that they are forced to send their children to private schools and pay high sums for them every month, because the municipality does not offer them an urban and public alternative at a sufficient level.

In recent years, next to the Al Hawiar school, the Alkarma school was established, the only remaining problem is that the two schools are located close to each other, and many of the Arab residents live in areas far from them.

Navot Peres - general lack of kindergartens and schools

In recent years, an Arab population has been living in the Naot Peres neighborhood. Some of the Arab residents own apartments and some rent. Either way, there are no municipal gardens for the Arab population in the neighborhood. The Jewish population in the neighborhood is also in a struggle, because there are not enough municipal kindergartens for all the children, and some of them have been asked to move to municipal kindergartens outside the boundaries of the neighborhood. The same is true for schools, in and around the neighborhood there is no elementary school or six-year school.

Kabbir - an elementary school, but there is no response in the middle school

In the Kabbir neighborhood, almost the entire population is Arab. There is an elementary school in the neighborhood, Ahmadiya, which caters to the children of the neighborhood. Some arrive on foot, some arrive by neighborhood bus or travel with their parents. As soon as they finish sixth grade, they have to get to a middle school located in the lower city, which means traveling on two buses each way.

It should be noted that the Jewish children who live in the streets near the Kabbir neighborhood - the Kabir neighborhood - can go to a school that is not far away - Hogii or Eruni H'ah.

The Carmel Center - more and more Arab families

Today, the Arab residents of Haifa are no longer concentrated in a small number of neighborhoods as was the case in the past years, but live in all neighborhoods of the city. In the center of Carmel, for example, many Arab families live. By nature, they need municipal kindergartens and primary and six-year schools. Currently, no matter where in the city an Arab family lives, they will have to send their children to educational institutions in the neighborhoods of Kabir, Hadar or in the lower city.

"I am the mother of a one-year-old girl and live in the center of Carmel," says an Arab resident who and her husband bought an apartment in the neighborhood about a year ago. "My daughter is now in a daycare center in the Kabvir neighborhood, and I hope that in the future she will enter the Bi-Lip Kindergarten, even though I heard that it is in high demand and there is difficulty in getting into it. What worries me is that in the future she will find herself being dragged on buses to El Hivar, like I did when I was little. When I walk around With her here in the cart, I hear more and more couples talking in Arabic. If that's the case, why doesn't the municipality take care of the kindergarten for the Arab population? studies, and not go to a nearby school like the Jewish children?"

The municipality's response to the article will be attached when received.

  1. I recommend that parents first think about what they can give to the state and only after that demand and shout.
The whole problem of the Arabs is that they think the other way around and always the way they like.
I recommend starting with full military service and start showing some loyalty to the country.

    • Either they give all the discharged Jewish soldiers what most of the Druze/Bedouin discharged soldiers get (land for construction at a ridiculous development cost price in their settlements) or they cancel all the benefits for all the discharged soldiers!! This generalization of the military service test in the context of loyalty to the country is enough. Enough with this naivety, sober up a bit

  2. There is acceleration in the occupation of the Arabs in the city of Haifa. 5 neighbors out of 8 Arabs live in Carmel. They are doing construction additions and renovations. They are destroying our apartments with cracks. They are renovating up to a minute before Shabbat or Yom Kippur. A book. Maybe they will expel us from Haifa as well and that's it.. Jews have no values and respect, otherwise they would sell apartments to Jews. Go to an Arab city or an Arab settlement, who will even sell you a house there? They have respect for us - no (at least for most of us) pity!

    • There are cities where apartments are not sold to Arabs, and this has come a long way. There was a riot for several days. And the city remained with a Jewish character. Haifa's problem is one. Whoever runs this city just destroys every good part. Too bad.

  3. Every period comes another cry that has a takeover process.
This time it's a school, so we asked,,, there are Russians here, so why isn't there a Russian school,,,, there are Ethiopians here, so why isn't there an Ethiopian school here, there are a lot of Caucasians, Georgians, Thais, Filipinos, Druzes, Circassians, Persians, Iraqis, Moroccans, Tunisians, ,,, why don't they have their own school ???
    Why ? !
Because they integrate, and do not want to take over the country through "eat me, drink me"!
Maybe you will understand that this is the State of Israel?!

  4. You commenters are really racist. In the USA, schools are being built especially for Jews and also schools for the ultra-Orthodox religious sector, so tell the government in the USA not to build schools for Jews. You are the truth, I don't believe in coexistence with the Jews, according to your responses, hello and not goodbye

    • Will Jews be allowed to buy an apartment in an Arab city or settlement? It's not even possible in the Druze settlements. Renting maybe yes, but buying? And you are here year after year buying apartments and houses in our cities, in our neighborhoods, in our buildings and without any objection and we are the racists at the end? I wish that soon there really will be a peace agreement like 2 countries talking to 2 peoples and a common sense people will live in a separate territory

    • Jerry, you are wrong.
In the US they don't build schools for Jews. Any school that isn't public is private and the parents pay.
Just for general information: when we were interested at the time in a Jewish school in Atlanta, the tuition was $15,000 per year.
      Today it costs much more.
So please …. Please be specific.

    • American Jews have not received or receive anything from the government,
Everything they have was built and bought with community funds.

All the more, they are not interested in assistance from the state, unlike you.
want school Put money with another friend and set up one,
Free yourself from the government and from us.

  5. So come study with us in an Arab school. Come on, sit quietly if you don't know how to respond correctly

  6. A lot of Jewish psychics give solutions from Kak Maika, so contact us with the schools if it's that easy for you to get up early in the morning in the rain in the summer heat to travel a long distance to change two or more buses. There really is no coexistence instead of encouraging in response to build schools for Arabs to educate the children who did not turn out to be criminals those reacting against building schools for Arabs what is this racism as if they are taking money from your account. Shame on you Kanara there is really no coexistence on your part

    • Where do your children come from that they have to get up early in the morning, in the rain in the heat, a far distance of more than two buses?
Isn't it better to build them a school closer?

Either you live in the city and integrate, or you live far from the city and build a community for yourself.
      don't go crazy

  7. I want to see Jews going to live in Arab villages.

    A. Jews are not going to live in Arab villages.
    B. And certainly not to ask for educational institutions for them... and more...
Everyone will live in an environment that suits them.

  8. As Arabs live in all the neighborhoods, Arabs can also go to all the schools. What is the problem?

  9. The content is important but the writing style is really poor. Is there no one to edit or proofread?

  10. What is the whining about in this article?

Since the 1970s, the Arabs have studied with us in an urban school.

I have yet to see a single Jew studying with them, let alone living with them.

  11. There are Arab kindergartens and schools in Haifa in neighborhoods with many Arab residents. It is impossible to establish in every neighborhood where several families have moved to live, a kindergarten and/or snack for about 20 children. Arab children are also admitted to Jewish schools if they know the language of the state. If you want an Arab garden, you can have it only in their special neighborhoods, where a large public demands it.

  12. I have no problem with an Arab child attending school provided he behaves properly and respects his surroundings. I see no reason to cultivate an Arab ghetto in Haifa

    • We don't cultivate a ghetto, they do it themselves and when someone leaves the ghetto in the end it only causes the ghetto to expand, they simply conquer and add more neighborhoods and streets to their ghetto

  13. If they chose to live in the city of Haifa, maybe it's time for them to study in our schools.
This separation does no one any good.
    The same for the ultra-Orthodox!

  14. That's how they conquer us without firing a single bullet. Tomorrow they will want a mosque like in Iruba. And all this because of Jews who are more interested in money than their honor!!!

    • There is a mosque in almost every neighborhood in the city,
And it can also be heard from almost every neighborhood in the city.

  15. What is the problem? Will they accept the Jews in schools and kindergartens in the city? Enough of the prettiness. But in all of Haifa, Arabs are accepted in Jewish kindergartens and schools

  16. An article that is completely insolent, there is no Jewish school (perhaps in the ultra-orthodox and religious state sector) the regular schools are completely Israeli, Muhammads teach all subjects including the Arabic language, an Israeli Arab who is not interested in studying Hebrew is invited to go to a designated school in the lower city.

  17. Do you suddenly want separation in education?!
    Why?
Why not in residence and yes in education?

  18. Why make an issue out of it? We will leave Shafaram until we see daylight
Name ! An Arab school will be built!
    Why build an Arab school?
If they want to be Arabs and not Israelis they should move to Lebanon or Jordan or go to hell they will find an Arab country!
Halas all the time to cry with them! Alec Arabic School!
And again there are Jews in which village?

  19. Important article Michal. Happy Sukkot and good night to you.

  20. Important article Michal. Good signature final and happy Sukkot. good night

  21. There are also special education students throughout the city and the schools are located at the entrance to the city.

Talented students in the arts also live throughout the city, the school is located in Kiryat Eliezer.

Open education seekers also live throughout the city, and the school is located in Neve Shanan.

A variety of schools will not be opened in every neighborhood that will meet everyone's needs.

  22. Arabs are moving to Jewish cities and neighborhoods, demanding a kindergarten and a school today and maybe a church and a mosque tomorrow. Question: Would it be possible in the opposite direction? It's a shame that the two parties do not respect each other and live in separate neighborhoods and cities

    • Kabir is not far from the center of Carmel just like Shaironi is not far from Kabirim.
And in addition, there is no need to shut down the entire city because of illegal parking and the beastly behavior of the children's parents who simply block the traffic near the schools at the beginning and end of school.
It is simply a nightmare traveling from Hadar to the lower city or Kiryat Eliezer takes between 7 and 10 minutes on holidays or Sundays but on their school days it takes between 45 minutes and an hour because of parents who park like beasts and block a lane and sometimes even two and cause an endless traffic jam.

  23. What is an Arab school? What is a Jewish school? Why the separation? Living together but not living together?

    • So come study with us in an Arab school. Come on, sit quietly if you don't know how to respond correctly

    • I start from the assumption that if a minority lives in an area where another language is spoken then they know the language. If I go to live in another country I will not require them to learn my language. If there is a bubble in a country that isolates itself in the country in such a way that there is no common language then that is the problem.

    • And even if I'm talking nonsense, what right do you have to try to shut up? What a stupid sentence "sit quietly". A sentence that comes from a place that itself does not want to speak.

    • First of all, my word that we will all sit quietly when you sit quietly.
Second thing, "come study with us in an Arab school" is pissing off the bouncer on us and you.

This has already been written a thousand times in the comments, but I will allow myself to be the thousand and one time -
You don't sell us apartments in your villages and certainly don't rent them out,
You don't sell us goods at the same price you sell to your friends,
You don't rob your friends like you rob us.

The only reason we don't pay you back in the same currency is because we are Jews, long live the small difference.
