Parking for surfers at the Surf Cycle Club:
The club is well viewed from the direction of the large parking lot and in most cases you can find parking a few steps away from the club. Parking is paid and you have to remember to activate Pango, because sometimes there are fines.
Come with flip flops:
Between the club and the sea runs a beach promenade built of interlocking stone. On summer days, after surfing, the transition from the water to the club may involve heat burns in the legs. That's why you should consider bringing flip flops and leaving them near the water line.
Declared surfing beach:
The municipality of Kiryat Yam did a good deed and defined the beach as a "declared surfing beach" and placed a sign in a prominent place.
The importance of this definition is that surfers are assigned a defined and clear beach to assemble their equipment and enter the water. Those walking on the beach are warned of the dangers associated with staying and bathing near surfers who may endanger them in the event of a collision with a pedestrian or swimmer.
Showers:
About 50 meters south of the club there are beach showers, operated by Kiryat Yam Municipality. The showers are open all summer long. It is recommended to come with a change of clothes, shampoo and a towel.
Staff
The club is managed by Gil Horvitz. Gil is one of Israel's top skiers. He is versed in a wide variety of types of surfing.
By Gil's side is the surfing instructor Bat El.
Typical wind directions for Kiryat Yam
wind for kitesurfing:
Karim Yam beach works well in all wind directions from south, through west to north, similar to most open beaches in Israel. Regarding southern and northern, there is not too much to innovate, because this is a typical spirit for all Israeli surfers.
but…
Kiryat Yam works well during the summer days even in westerly winds, on days when the rest of Israel's coasts do not receive wind.
Spirit of summer in Kiryat - a tip for kitesurfers:
In the summer, a typical day in Kiryat will start from 10:30 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. Kiryat Yam works.
Almost every day of summer, when there is one A seasonal stream And the south-west wind in the morning shifted to the west in the afternoon, Kiryat Yam works, which creates a situation where it is the spot with the most windy days in the Israeli summer.
The wind starts on the spot with a southwesterly component and then the angle is SIDE-ON. Around 11:30 the wind swung west and it becomes One Shore. In this situation, the sea usually rises a little and the surfing takes place parallel to the shore.
The typical wind in Kiryat Yam is at a speed of 14-15 knots with gusts of 18. On the strongest days also 17-22 knots and even more.
The location of kitesurfers in the west of summer in Kiryat
Most kitesurfers usually gather in front of the club, in the shallow area marked in pink.
But some surfers prefer to go on a trip around Haifa Bay, in the area marked in light green. At the southern border you can meet the ships working on the construction of the Gulf port. At the northern border you can reach the city of Acre. The trip does not involve any particular risk, because the entire beach is open and you can be thrown to it in case of a malfunction.
One sensitive point is the Raphael area, located north of the city of Kiryat Yam. The surfers see it clearly by the guard towers and fences near the water. In this area it is forbidden to approach the beach and it is recommended not to go down to the beach there, except in the case of an emergency of a malfunction of the equipment.
Southern limit of the deep zone: This picture shows the ship Sheaf, which is engaged in removing old oil pipelines from the bottom of Haifa Bay. I surfed south about 3 kilometers in order to photograph it
Be careful near the declared bathing beaches of Kiryat Yam and Rafal Beach
Two declared beaches are in the surf zone and you must be careful not to enter them.
The beach adjacent to the surfing area is the municipal beach of Kiryat Haim. The beach is crowded with bathers during the bathing season. You must be careful not to enter the bathing area and, in addition, not to surf near it, so that even in the event that your kite falls, you will not be swept in and endanger the bathers. Beyond the safety aspect, it is important for us to maintain a proper and respectful relationship between the kite surfers and the bathers and the municipality that operates the bathing beach.
The lifeguards at Kiryat Yam beach, next to the surfing center, are calmer and don't shout for nothing.
Rafael Beach is north of Kiryat Yam and you should not go down to the beach in this area.
Surfing near the municipal beach in Kiryat Haim (Naot Beach): Those of you who surf about a kilometer and a half to the south, will be able to see the urban beach of Kiryat Haim, called "Hoof Neot". The lifeguards at Kiryat Haim beach are not used to the proximity of surfers, therefore, whoever crosses the area of the buoys (300 meters from the beach), will receive hysterical warnings on the public address system.
