A solemn ceremony for the opening of the renovated cave was definitely…
A few days after the event of the reopening of the Cave of the Prophet Elijah in Haifa, visitors to the place are greeted by a sign that reads: "The Cave of Elijah is closed for renovations."
So why is the sign there?
As I recall, last Thursday 14/7/22, the prophet Elijah's cave was opened after extensive renovation works that lasted about two years. However, at the entrance to the cave site, which is considered one of the holy sites for all religions in Israel, there is a sign hanging on it that says the cave is closed for renovations.
closing? open? It is not clear
In checking with the municipality, it was not possible to get clear answers to the questions of whether the cave is open to visitors or still closed, whether renovations are still being carried out or perhaps it was a mistake...
The National Center for Holy Places informed Lahi Pa:
"The site is officially still under construction, so it is open to the public, but is closed to the extent that dangerous work is being done there. In about a month, the site will finally open and then regular opening hours will also be published."
