Thousands of migrating wireworms are already found around the beaches of Haifa and Kariya and we will meet them again. Admittedly, this is only the beginning, and the hope of bathers and lovers of water sports is that as few migrating cords as possible will infest the beaches, and if there are jellyfish, it would be better if other species, less disturbing, arrive in greater numbers than migrating cords.

In the rare video in front of you, which was taken about two years ago, you can see the behavior of a siphonophora that was taken out of the sea in front of the Keder beach in Haifa. Its size is so tiny that it is not easy to notice it and it is especially difficult to capture it when the sea is rough. The siphonophora also stings, being a distant member of the jellyfish family.

Either way, as of now they are already here. The first jellyfish have already landed on Meridian Beach and the southern beaches of Haifa, and several dozen have already been observed on the beaches of the Kariyas.

The jellyfish have long since become a routine nuisance, thousands of jellyfish ooze stinging mucus causing bathers and swimmers to keep their feet off the beaches.

According to the state of the sea

Swarms of jellyfish are already making their way to the beaches of Haifa and Kiryat, most of them are migratory filaments, the average size of each jellyfish is about 30-40 cm. According to reports I received and as I saw with my own eyes, they are now about 200-300 meters from the shore, a distance that may can change even within an hour, depending on the state of the sea.

Burns are already being reported by bathers and swimmers, and this is the time to mention that the burn originates from the hunting arms, which even when they are torn off (and this happens more easily) and while they are still floating freely in the water space, they continue to carry the stinging mucus and hurt when they come into contact with the skin.

How long will they be here?

Well, the prophecy was given to fools, everything depends on the state of the sea, waves, currents and wind directions. As for the entire summer season, the safest place for a calm and sunburn-free bath is the open beach at Bat Galim. The reason for this is the topographic structure in the direction of the flow, leaving Bat Galim as the last refuge for sea lovers. But also in Bat Galim, this should be known, if we pass the line of buoys, we enter directly into the line of flow of the jellyfish.

Protective suits

The jellyfish should not discourage the devout sea lovers and professionals, because today, unlike before, there are protective clothing for swimmers, surfers and divers, which block the stinging cells of the jellyfish and protect against the painful stings.

Later in the summer, other jellyfish will also appear, stinging less or even not at all, and an added bonus - they are also more beautiful. In any case, it must be remembered that the most important thing is to protect the face and especially the eyes.
