Thanks to the proposal of council member Shuver, assistance will be possible in the rehabilitation of the Shai El Alon family and his family
City Council member Nir Shuver brought up a proposal at the last city council meeting to promote the issue of the Alon family that has been sitting at the entrance to the Maxim intersection for over 15 years. Motion passed unanimously.
The case of Shai El Alon and his family is known to many Haifaites. The family members have been sitting in a tent for many years, near a charming intersection. The background for this is that in 2001, during his military service, Shai Al, one of the sons, encountered three terrorists from Jenin in the Hadar neighborhood, who tried to steal his weapon. Shay Al resisted and was stabbed in the neck, a short distance from the main artery. Since then he has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and even tried to end his life several times. According to the family, when Shai Al turned to the Ministry of Defense, he was ignored in regards to his rights and did not receive appropriate assistance, therefore he decided to sit in a tent and protest against the Ministry's conduct towards him, with his family by his side, supporting him and not leaving him for a moment.
City Council member Nir Shuver wrote in his proposal:
I would like to raise and promote the issue of the Alon family before the members of the city council. As everyone already knows, a family has been sitting at the entrance to the Maksim intersection for over 15 years, protesting against the injustices done to them by the Ministry of Defense. The family is in a difficult mental and financial situation following the well-known incident with brother Shay Al, a disabled IDF soldier, who fought a terrorist In the Hadar neighborhood in 2001, and from that day on their lives are no longer alive, the family went through a very difficult upheaval, And so they wrote to me:
"I am turning to you for help in the most urgent situation. My name is Alon and I am the brother of Shai Al Alon. I am writing following the situation of my brother, a disabled IDF who has been protesting with his family for 15 years at the Maxim junction in Haifa. In 2001, in the Hadar neighborhood of Haifa, my brother encountered three terrorists from Jenin who tried to steal his weapon. He resisted to prevent a mass casualty disaster and actually sacrificed himself and was stabbed in the neck a short distance from the main artery, luckily or not. Since then, after he contacted the Ministry of Defense, his rights were ignored and they only rushed to blow him up with psychiatric pills. Asahu began to feel that he was lethargic and unable to function, he realized that this was not the way, but he began to suffer from post-trauma and everything that the disease carries with it, anxiety, depression, which led to three suicide attempts. He decided to sit in a tent and protest against the conduct of the office with his family by his side supporting and not leaving. In this way, in the hope that the story will be solved and on the side of justice, years passed for them, but in constant suffering, both on the economic side, which did not improve either, and on the side of the terrible heat in the summer and the cold and the rain in the winter, all the time with the knowledge of the Ministry of Defense passing by and no one having the good fortune to be interested or try to reach To talk, just ignore.
Later on, the city inspectors began under the auspices of the mayor at that time, they would come and blow up and destroy everything that came near. Tent, mattresses and everything that the family used for basic living. Then the police also started arriving and really harassing, hurting and disrespecting, as if they were the last of the criminals. From then until today, they count 13 years of suffering, followed by pain, insult and disrespect, and the system that those people who sit in it and were supposed to be loyal to and those who should care for and help the safety of those who served in the army and protected their bodies to prevent a disaster. I write as a brother who sees how a family is trampled. fading away and disintegrating, both mentally and physically, the situation is impossible and illogical in a reformed country, since as I mentioned the state is responsible for its children, they are taken in at the age of 18, they are conscripted and cut off from their parents and actually become responsible for them, but when the burden should fall on them they ignore it and are no longer responsible, It shouldn't be like this, what about my mother, since she stayed there in the lack of conditions suitable for a woman, in heat and cold, that the apartment changed her mind, with a lot of nerves and pain that she carried with her, which led her to get sick. I appeal to everyone who has a drop of compassion left in their hand to bring an end to the suffering of an entire family."
In light of the unusual and rare story and the much abuse the family suffered from the Ministry of Defense and the Haifa Municipality in the past, Shuver's proposal for their rehabilitation is as follows:
- The city council will direct the Shekmona company to locate a suitable apartment for parents who live in public housing, in a very old apartment that is in a bad condition, at the entrance to the Wadi Nasnas neighborhood, an apartment that is less suitable for a family and is in a very bad condition and is located on the third floor, which burdens the unhealthy parents and the mother of the family who is sick with cancer.
- The Haifa City Council will instruct the Property Division and the Engineering Director to locate an urban area as close to the protest site as possible and if not, the representatives of the Engineering Director will locate an area as a suitable alternative or a store from which the family can make a living until a solution is found with the Ministry of Defense and thus begin the rehabilitation of the family that has become a landscape and "problem" for all of us, it is important to note that my request to you is humanitarian and important, we members of the city council should step into the shoes where the Ministry of Defense has failed. This is our role as elected officials. There were many municipal precedents for the allocation of municipal properties (kiosk) (market stall) (store) (robber) and thus in the 70s and 80s families with severe welfare cases, released prisoners, mentally challenged people, and people with disabilities were rehabilitated.
Legal advisor, Adv. Yamit Klein, explained that the first section can be left as it is and guide the Shekmona company in finding a suitable apartment for the family. But with regard to section 2, there is a problem, because it is an individual issue and that this will go to the welfare division and the decision that will be made will be subject to the recommendation of the welfare manager.
City Council member Nir Shuver told Lahi Pa:
It is certain that this is just the opening shot for the beginning of the rehabilitation of the Alon family, their protest is against the Ministry of Defense. I was happy that finally, after 15 years in a tent at the entrance to Neve David and no one treats them, the family will begin rehabilitation. I hope that now that the mayor has intervened with Defense Minister Benny Gantz, and together with my proposal for an order passed by the city council, their future will be better. I will continue to have my hand on the pulse and help this dear family and especially to the Hero of Israel. I am personally involved in the story here and will not leave the family until full rehabilitation.
Shlomi Alon, Shai Al's brother, told Hai Fe:
We thank city council member Nir Shuver for his caring and trying to help us restore the family, and everyone who supported us, and we await good news. But we still demand and want a senior official from the Ministry of Defense to come to us and sign the documents that should have been signed a long time ago. The Ministry of Defense abandoned us for years and continues to abandon us. They abuse us and add trauma to the existing trauma.
The Ministry of Defense informed Hai Fa:
Mr. Alon has been recognized by the rehabilitation department since his injury about 20 years ago. As part of the therapeutic response, Mr. Alon, with the cooperation of the family, was offered various rehabilitation frameworks over the years. In the coming days, another meeting will be held with the Alon family in order to examine additional options for suitable treatment for Shay Al and his family.Due to the modesty of the individual we will not expand beyond what has been said.
So he made a proposal and immediately publishes it in the media as if everything had already been worked out.
What about the 1,200 Leo Buck children who have been crying out for two years that he and Klish will find an adequate solution for them to study next year?
