It's all Tumarkin

It turns out that not everyone knows the sculpture garden in the Haifa hostel. The garden was inaugurated in June 2019 at the Ana Hostel in the southern entrances of Haifa, and since it is located inside the hostel complex and closed behind a gate, many are completely unaware of its existence, and that it is actually open to the public and you can come and visit it. So if you didn't know either, or haven't yet You have the opportunity to come to the beautiful garden - now is the time.

In an interview with Lahi Pa there is a great number About the special and spectacular garden, which was established at the initiative of the previous mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, who contributed and assisted a lot in expediting and approving the establishment of the ANA youth hostel in the city.

"The Society of Museums purchased two statues that were donated to the garden and we purchased 19 additional statues. Today, in the garden that was established after a long and expensive process, at a cost of 1.1 million NIS, not including the cost of the sculptures, 21 sculptures of a unique and special artist are placed and concentrated, with all the sculptures being his creations In recent years. Next to each sculpture there is an explanation of what is behind it artistically and in terms of content.

Attracts the public eye

The hostel is visited by 72 thousand people a year, who visit the garden and enjoy the works placed in it. "We don't count external visitors, but many groups come after hearing about our garden and there are many who simply come to the gate of the hostel and ask the guard to open it for them to see the works. The beautiful garden definitely attracts the public's eye.

The garden is open to the public every day of the week - Sundays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. during the summer and from 10:00 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. in the winter. On the weekends, entry is by appointment. Of course, at any time entry is subject to registration and a security check.

the last years

The thing that makes the garden unique is that the whole of it is dedicated to one special artist, who is known all over the country and whose works are many and well-known in the country, sculptures and monuments that came out under his hands are found in many places throughout the country, while in the hostel in Haifa, as mentioned, these are sculptures that he created in the last years of his creation.

I must point out that the construction of the hostel added a lot to the city of Haifa. We are talking about tens of thousands of people who come to stay, relax and travel in the city of Haifa. These days we are adding a new wing to the hostel and I believe it will increase the number of guests to 90 thousand a year, people who will come to travel, rest and enjoy Haifa, especially on holidays and weekends.

Educational concept

Tomarkin's sculpture garden at the hostel is part of our educational concept. The Association of Youth Hostels in Israel was established in 1937, 11 years before the establishment of the state, and its purpose was to educate for love of people, pluralism, love of the land, and knowledge of society. These are her values, social values that include a place of respect for art, culture and sustainability. The city of Haifa is a special and beautiful city, where there is a fusion of different ethnicities and cultures that live together, and I believe that all of these are embodied in this approach.

A big thank you to Yona Yahav

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the former mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, for the entire construction of the hostel and his significant contribution to its establishment. He deserves a huge thank you. I also see to this day the great things he did for Haifa, and I would like to thank him again on behalf of the Youth Hostels Association in Israel.

  1. Shocking sculptures. Who knows the meaning of the statues. Mind engineering at its best.

  2. And the NA hostel should be moved to a building above the roof of the Carmel beach center as it was planned to be built in the past, an ideal place near the sea and near public transportation. Build a hostel with double rooms from the NA and the NA can be turned into a high school for the beach neighborhoods.

    • A high rent can be charged for the roof of an Egged station.
Why don't they continue this even if the license is not clear?
Besides, it is planned to destroy the entire station and build towers in its place...

  3. Why on earth does a sculpture garden turn into a garden inside a hostel in a place that is far from the whole city and why on earth would the ANA hostel be established there??
A place without public transport, far from trains and buses, what did you try to do?
The sculpture garden can be moved next to the Kadishman sculpture garden in Wadi Salib, and make two sculpture gardens there that will create a good reason for local tourism to come there. It seems that in our city they simply do not know how to promote tourist sites and tourism in general and stick things in remote inaccessible places and without advertising.

  4. It's a shame that the garden is only open during the heat and not during the evening hours (6-7 pm) which are more pleasant and less harmful to the skin

  5. Wow, what a shame, for years I have been traveling once or twice a year to the hostel in question with a national group I belong to, for annual conferences. And we know the place of course. I was there this year about a month ago for many hours on Friday,+ Saturday, and this garden was not mentioned. It's a shame. Thanks for the information.

  6. Indeed, I made an official visit to the sculpture garden of the well-known and respected artist Yigal Tomarkin in Haifa and I was very impressed by the lovely and amazing garden. A wonderful day

    • An official visit from Rafol? hahahahaha
And I'll remind you again of Rapol, always after a semicolon. Mivarah, and also his memory for blessing is written like this: Zal and no
      Z'L!!!

  7. And to think that there were those who actually fought to replace the excellent mayor Yahav. ...look what you got?

    • Yona Yahav the "big" with Hedva Almog the cowherd: graduates and founders of the crazy Habib Rike street!!!
      And others following him….
