3 months in prison for a resident of Usafia who petted his dogs with a hyena until he died in severe agony
Shocking video documentation that was shared on Facebook and reached the Nature and Parks Authority, which opened an investigation following it, led today (Wednesday 6/4/22) to a sentence of three months in prison against a resident of the town of Usfia, in his 40s, for brutally hunting a hyena. Defined by law as a protected wild animal, through his two dogs.
According to the indictment filed by the Nature and Parks Authority and the sentence handed down by Judge Zaid Falah at the Haifa Magistrate's Court, in August 2019 the defendant noticed two hyenas near his car in Usafia and released his two dogs, which are Akita attack dogs, and chased them away from the hyenas.
Encourage the dogs to continue
The accused got into his car, drove after the dogs that moved about 400 meters away, where he saw that the dogs caught one of the hyenas, who was injured and limping. The dogs brutally attacked and bit the hyena and while he was watching what was happening, the defendant took out his mobile phone and took a video, in which he recorded the brutal attack, while reading out loud and encouraging them to continue attacking the hyena repeatedly without mercy.
Died crying and in agony
Due to the many attacks and bites of the dogs, encouraged by the accused, the hyena died crying and in severe agony.
The defendant himself uploaded the harsh and cruel video to the Internet through a post on Facebook, in which he bragged about the cruel act of his dogs and called them "my lions".
In the verdict given after the trial and hearing the witnesses, the judge wrote that "the defendant actually admitted that he encouraged his dogs to continue attacking the hyena even after it surrendered, and even increased it when he explicitly stated that he enjoyed it."
The accused was convicted of the offenses of hunting without a license or permit, the prohibition of hunting by cruel methods and the prohibition of hunting at night, and in addition to a sentence of three months in prison in practice, he was also sentenced to six months of probation if he commits similar offenses within three years of his release from prison, a fine of 10,000 NIS and a commitment A monetary sum of NIS 50,000 to refrain from committing one or more of the offenses for which he was convicted in this case for 3 years from the date of the sentence.
Attorney Ronan Meir managed the case on behalf of the Nature and Parks Authority.
The chief prosecutor at the Nature and Parks Authority, Shai Peretz, said:
This is a very cruel incident which was properly answered by the honorable court when it imposed on the accused a prison sentence to be actually served along with other significant punishment elements. In doing so, the Haifa Magistrate's Court follows the same path outlined by the Supreme Court, which determined that the place of those who are cruel to protected wild animals is, under the appropriate circumstances, behind bars, and this is, among other things, for the purpose of deterring defendants of this type and other potential criminals.
Liad Ling, head of investigations and intelligence in the Northern District of the Nature and Parks Authority:
These are actions of hunting, hunting and cruel abuse of the hyena that led to his death in agony. The sentence given is the result of enforcement and investigation actions conducted by inspectors and investigators of the Nature and Parks Authority in cooperation with the Animal Welfare Division in the Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Agriculture, with the aim of bringing the accused to justice. We will continue with determined information and enforcement actions in order to prevent the recurrence of these cases and to reduce as much as possible the harm to wildlife and the phenomenon of illegal hunting.
What rubbish people
Stupid bastard. A murderer and a fool.
Kudos to the authorities who treated him like that, even though I would have preferred to tear him apart the hypocrite who ran away.
The punishment is too light for a serious crime. Despite this, there is an improvement in the actual treatment of the subject. I just don't understand why there was a delay of 3 years from the offense to the judgment.
The dogs should be confiscated from him permanently, such a deformed person should not be allowed to breed dogs in general and Akita in particular.
Very sad
So much violence in the act and so much violence in the reactions....the heart hurts.
And what's sadder is the ridiculous sentence.
It's insane
There are no cruel animals, only cruel people. The animal is survivalist and acts for survival motives only. Cruelty is not related here. Your concern has nothing to do with reality because the chance that a hypocrite will attack you in Israel tends to 0. You are not in Tanzania..
Just for your information, there was a case in the past where a hyena preyed on a child in Kfar Yehezkel. A True Story. The writer Meir Shalev, mentioned the event, with changes of course, in his book - "Russian novel".
The hyena is a very cruel animal and there is no mercy. The Nature Authority releases hyenas and pigs and does not give them food and then they come to the houses to look for food and it is very dangerous. But there are more than dangerous people who sit in offices and receive salaries. Or sit in the courts and give ridiculous punishments
It is understood that you may be dangerous if he feels scared, but most likely he won't attack and the same thing, these animals are usually afraid of my son, and it's not like he killed him in self-defense, he just did it for fun
SOS is proud of its proportionate, reasonable and just punishment for the criminal acts described here.
The actual prison sentence is too short in my opinion.
This is a primitive sub-human who loved at extreme levels and is dangerous to those around him.
Sad and shocking but,,, but is there a serious discussion about returning hyenas or wolves to the wild? Isn't there a chance that the hyena or the wolves will hunt me off-road? Not that his dogs seem like a sure thing to me, but?
A child can go crazy on a trip, etc
Live in the movie. You are not in Africa. If a hyena sees you in the wild, the chances of him approaching you are close to zero. If you do not feel safe take protective measures with you. . You are the intruder not the other way around. Distorted perception..
The appropriate punishment should have been: that Jesus Aryeh towards him Ishmaeli. This is a punishment!!
It's a killer for everything, a human being enjoys seeing an animal suffer and cry, it's noble.
A despicable murderer enjoys watching a hypocrite suffer and cry in pain, a noble scumbag and teaches your dogs to weave a piece of shit...
This piece of sonnnnnn alfffffff……. It is managed that they do this to you and your family
A piece of cruel scumbag......I wish he would get paralysis for life
Disgusting psychopath, confiscate his dogs and keep him away from society. They don't want murderous sadists walking around pretty freely.
Is this a proper punishment for a murderer??? To a sadistic serial abuser to a psychopath! Disgrace of a judge! He also murdered his 2 dogs because he turned them into a fighting machine, a shame for the country
I'm with you. I'm from Haifa too
dumb. It's a shame they didn't sentence him to death in agony so he would feel what happened to the unfortunate hypocrites. Apart from that, the dogs could catch rabies from the hyenas.
Ivan Alf Shermitt!!!
Kudos to Judge Zaid Falah
A cruel person who is cruel to animals even if they are not a "protected animal" deserves a long prison sentence that he and his ilk will learn
Is this a punishment? Keep making fun of the judges.
