Streets and names • How did the streets in the Ramat Hanasi neighborhood in Haifa get their names?

Ramat Hanasi neighborhood

The Ramat Hanasi neighborhood was built very close to the old Neve David neighborhood, at that time there was also a wall separating the two neighborhoods. The entire Ramat Hanasi is just a number of streets with high-rise buildings, and yet, at first the impression was created that she does not wish to rub shoulders with Neve David.

Over time, the separation between the neighborhoods disappeared, there is nothing to be done - Ramat HaNasi is "glued" to Neve David. Moreover, Neve David has been preparing for urban renewal for many years, and when it arrives, Neve David will look like a block of high-rise buildings, just like Ramat Hanasi.

Life is like in the savior's arbor

I suppose there are people who like to live in a 17-story building, see the sea from the balcony and feel as if they are in the lifeguard's arbor. Many neighborhoods today are built like this, such as the Savioni Dania neighborhood. Maybe the problem is with me, that I don't understand the advantages of such residences, but in my life I don't understand people's love for high-rise residences, when all the buildings are endless blocks of concrete and everything looks the same and with a lot of gray.

A beautiful neighborhood

At the same time, the Ramat Hanasi neighborhood itself is beautiful. There is a large and impressive shopping center and of course the most beautiful playground in Haifa - by a large margin from the rest. The neighborhood is immersed in green from all directions, and of course a short look to the west and you see only blue.

But which president?

The Ramat Hanasi neighborhood was initially called "Ramat Habib" after Habib Khayat, after the Khayat family, which was one of the owners of the land. Later, the entrepreneurs who built the neighborhood decided to call it Ramat Hanasi, and although the name was never approved by the municipal committee, it became established among the Haifa public.

In Haifa there are many neighborhoods named after presidents and prime ministers (Naot Peres, Ramat Eshkol, Ramat Golda), and Ramat Hanasi is apparently in memory of one of the presidents, but which one? The name of the neighborhood is not in memory of anyone and does not honor any previous president or prime minister.

Tribulations from the first moment

An examination of the hardships that the neighborhood went through in its first years, even before construction began, is the essence of the problem faced by the developers and residents in Haifa. Every time an entrepreneur came, he saw what he could build in the neighborhood and hurried to contact the municipal planning institutions in order to get permission to build more. Of course, each time the local committee did approve of increasing the volume of construction, but it seems that it was never enough, so the developers repeatedly went to the committee to get permits to build more units.

Green lungs and struggles

Even the residents who lived nearby did not like, to say the least, the planned construction. For several years, objections were raised and difficulties piled up, so that the construction would not be carried out. In the end, as always, neighborhood after neighborhood, the residents who live near the green lung and take comfort in it - lose. That doesn't stop the residents in the next neighborhood from starting their own fight. It happened in Ramat Hanasi, it happened in Givat Zemer and it happened and will happen in other neighborhoods.

Abandon the old and build a new one

Probably the meaning of living in the city is that even though there is a large amount of unoccupied apartments, more and more new neighborhoods continue to be built and the apartments that stand empty are not taken care of, and we are talking about hundreds or even thousands of such apartments.

Shonit Street is between Sea Road and the Ramat Hanasi neighborhood. The two high-rises on Shonit Street were built before the Ramat Hanasi neighborhood was built and populated, and they are still located at the edge of the neighborhood. The buildings stand out in their appearance due to their colors. When the Ramat Hanasi neighborhood was built, those who already lived on Shonit Street could not open the window because of the mountains of dust created by the construction.

The meaning of the street name is a rock or a sandy ridge, and sometimes artificial objects that are under the surface of the water or rise above it and are a habitat for bottom-dwelling animals. Obviously, the proximity of the street to the sea gave it its name.

Habib Street is in memory of Dr. Habib Khayat, a member of the Khayat family who left for the USA, studied law there and served as a lecturer in the field. Habib returned to Haifa and joined the family business, which owned the land on which Ramat Hanasi was later built. Kiat died in 1979, when he was only 45 years old. He did not get to see the project really come to fruition. After his death, the family received the first permit to build on the site, but did not implement it. At the beginning, the neighborhood was called Ramat Habib, as mentioned, after the landowners. Only then was the name changed.

coral

I have to say that despite more and more rounds in the neighborhood looking for the signs with the names of the streets, which of course drew sirens from drivers who were driving behind me and thought I wasn't driving fast enough, I didn't find any such signs. All I have to do is take a picture of the front of the building with the name of the street.

Coral, as we know, is a marine animal. There is also a large construction company by that name, but it actually built a Naot Peres project and not at the level of the president.

new and white

There is no arguing about taste and smell, and there is no doubt that new, white buildings look attractive to some people, it is a fact that many families purchase apartments at the President level for a price of over a million NIS. The new construction today is mostly, in my humble opinion, a pile of buildings of this type, and if any So many people are willing to spend millions in order to live with dozens or hundreds of other families in a concrete block that has no end, maybe there is something good in this, more than I think.

In my eyes it is still better to live in a house that has few tenants and does not have so many floors. Going out to the balcony on the tenth floor seems scary to me. I understand that you get used to everything, but I prefer not to.

The gaps between the playgrounds

If I had to write only one article over and over for the rest of my life, it would undoubtedly be about the disparities between playgrounds in coastal neighborhoods versus those in neighborhoods on the ridge. I think that the fact that mothers from poor neighborhoods encounter a tired and unattractive playground next to the house, compared to more established mothers, who encounter a well-kept and inviting playground, is a terrible injustice.

The gap is even more painful from the assumption that the established mother will usually have a car and will be able to take the children to any playground she wants, or to playgrounds, to the beach and to shows, compared to the mother who can't afford to spend free afternoons at the depressing playground in her neighborhood. Of course, every rule has exceptions and there are weak neighborhoods with very successful playgrounds. This is still not indicative of most neighborhoods.

The most beautiful garden of all

Ramat Hanasi is really not a neighborhood on the ridge, but its residents are of a relatively high socioeconomic status, and in Lima, the playground in the neighborhood is among the most beautiful in the city, and in my opinion, even the most beautiful of all. First of all, this is a huge park. Beyond that, it has attractions that you don't see in many playgrounds, such as facilities with ropes and water. What's even more beautiful about this park is the fact that it is also suitable for older children, so you can go out with both toddlers and children aged 10-13, who can also enjoy it and spend very enjoyable hours there.

Attracts people from other neighborhoods

Of course, there is no good without bad. Over the years, the residents of Ramat Hanasi have often complained that the garden is so successful that it brings residents from other neighborhoods to the neighborhood who want to enjoy the climbing facilities and other attractions. The residents of the neighborhood claimed that those who come from outside are noisy and dirty. But there is nothing to do, passports are not checked at the entrance to every neighborhood.

shopping center

Ramat Hanasi shopping center is really lovely. There you can find Shufersal and a branch of Bank Hapoalim. There is an optician's shop and fast food restaurants. It's very convenient to live in the neighborhood, spend the afternoon at the playground and then bring the kids to eat a quick pizza, shower and go to bed.

Such a traffic circle…

It's really hard not to mention this traffic circle, on the slopes of Sea Road, next to the neighborhood. It is not clear what the rationale is for building such a large traffic circle, which barely leaves room for vehicle traffic. What is clear is that there are traffic jams in the place, which could have been avoided, at least in part, if this traffic circle had been of a reasonable size. If you continue up the sea road to the center of Carmel, there are several more traffic circles on the street, all of them commensurate with the size of the road. What happened in this traffic circle? mystery.

schools

The schools in the neighborhood are the six-year Leo Buck school and also the new division that opened this year in the neighborhood itself. The new middle school is a growing school, so this year there was only the 7th grade and next school year there will also be an 8th grade.

It should be noted that at a distance of two blocks from the neighborhood is the new six-year school in Semat, which offers studies with a technological emphasis. The school is regional and there is a test for students who are interested in studying there.

The nearest elementary school is "Ramot" in the Sheprintak neighborhood, or "Nirim" in Neve David. Students have to take a bus or car shuttle to get to each of these schools.

How much does it cost?

From the Madeleine website you can see that a 100 square meter (4 room) apartment on Shunit Street was sold for 1.6 million NIS. A 5-room apartment (127 square meters) was sold on Almog Street for NIS 2.06 million.

In general, this is a very nice neighborhood, a good place in all respects to raise a family and raise children. Close to the sea, the train and metro station, good schools, a great playground and a shopping center within walking distance.

  1. I am aware that it is the duty of the Haifa municipality to honor the honorable Chiat family who contributed a lot to the city of Haifa, this is a lovely Christian family and the first to settle in our city, therefore it is the duty of the Haifa municipality to give great respect and appreciation to the Chiat family for their activities for our city.
I really hope that my voice will be heard by many.

  2. Israel is greedy and therefore it is very desirable to build to a height and not to encourage private construction that requires far more expensive infrastructures and slaughters nature

  3. Even in two and a half blocks of the neighborhood you drove around in the car.. It sounds like you are a serious addict or your legs are inactive. In any case, the President level was marketed to high tech people as 'come live with more like you'. No one counts Noah David out of the meter and she is a nuisance to the level of the president like mosquitoes. They built a commercial center instead of sane shopping streets because the construction company is a sea of mallonization. This is how the failed city engineer approved a commercial center that causes traffic jams both at the entrance to Ramat Hanasi and Ramat David. Waterman is walking damage everywhere you look. And the replica buildings are so ugly. Those in the evacuation of Neve David will be crowded and uglier and even more congested, that's for sure.
I also asked a few years ago about the name of which president? The marketer told me that they wanted to emphasize that if you go by sea, you arrive at Sderot Hanasi and the Carmel Center. Ramat Habib was the old name in the programs. There were also slopes by the sea. In any case, none of the residents care about her name as long as they don't build the other half of it behind. And how will they build?
