Only about 250 apartments began to be built in Haifa in the first half of this year; 3,500 construction starts in the entire Haifa district.
Only 249 apartments began to be built in the city of Haifa in the first half of 2021. For comparison, in the whole of 2020 there were 454 construction starts against the background of the Corona crisis - this is according to the analysis of the CBS data carried out by the Haifa District Contractors Organization.
In terms of the amount of construction starts in Haifa in the previous years, it can be seen that the 2021 figures represent a sharp decrease in construction in the city: in 2014-2018, an average of 1,250 construction starts per year were recorded in the city.

In the entire Haifa district, a relatively high rate of construction starts was recorded in the first half - almost 3,500 new apartments began to be built, compared to 4,800 apartments that began to be built in all of 2020 and about 6,500 in 2019. In Or Akiva, for comparison, a city that also belongs to the Haifa district, 1,355 construction starts were recorded in the first half of the year, which pales the data of the city of Haifa.
Haim Feiglin, Chairman of the Haifa District Contractors Association:
Apparently, the figures for construction starts for the half indicate a certain improvement compared to last year, but it should be remembered that 2020 was a low year for construction starts due to the corona virus. In practice, from a multi-year perspective, the amount of construction starts in Haifa is very low, especially when it comes to the third largest city in Israel. I call on the government and the local authority to encourage construction in Haifa, otherwise the lack of apartments will continue and increase in the coming years.

On a national level, 12,522 new apartments began to be built in the second quarter - a decrease of 4.5% compared to the first quarter, when the construction of 13,045 new apartments began. Compared to the corresponding quarter last year, when 11,001 housing units began to be built in the shadow of the corona crisis, an increase of 13.8% was recorded. Among the leading cities in construction starts in the first half are Ashkelon as mentioned, Tel Aviv (1,766 apartments), Or Akiva (1,355 apartments), and as mentioned, Haifa remains far behind.
The construction is measured by quality and combination and not by a predatory crowd
No one.
And it's also good that the one-point construction, with lots of deviations and deviations, will stop.
And maybe the city (and especially Carmel) will be saved from the damage of this construction.
She knows how to destroy houses, especially of Arabs, she does not know how to build
There is no reason to build in Haifa, the city is being abandoned.
Why are thousands of apartments under construction necessarily a good situation?
