A visit lasting several days
The visit to the port of Haifa, lasting several days, is part of the cruises of the missile ship and the helicopters in the eastern Mediterranean, and its purpose, mainly, is to refresh the crew.

The battleship – HMS RICHMOND
the ship HMS RICHMOND It is a helicopter-carrying battleship that entered service in 1993. It is 133 meters long and its maximum sailing speed is 28 knots (52 km/h). For comparison, the Navy's new Storm 6 ships are about 89 meters long.

When the British flag was removed
It was fascinating to watch the ship tie up today (Tuesday 29/6/21) in the port, as mentioned, 73 years after the last destroyer left the port of Haifa, on June 30, 1948. The ship docked next to the famous Mandatory Administration Building, from which it was removed that day, for the last time , the British flag, and to which David Ben-Gurion arrived later that day, in order to gain possession of the first Israeli port.

The mandatory management building - a building for conservation
The same mandatory administrative building, which was abandoned quite a few years ago, will become a bustling tourist center next year, after the Ministry of Tourism and the Government Tourism Company complete a total renovation of the building, which is defined as a conservation building. The future tourism center adjacent to the passenger terminal of Haifa Port will actually be the first swallow in the ambitious urban sea front project, which will turn the western part of Haifa Port, in stages, into a recreation and commercial area open to the general public.

Zohar Rom, Director of Tourism and Cruises at Haifa Port:
We host ships of foreign navies all year round, and still, it is especially exciting to host a British navy ship in the port of Haifa on this symbolic date, when the episode of the British mandate ended. Not many people know the fact that this was the date when the British finally left, about a month and a half after the declaration of the State of Israel. Towards the 75th anniversary of that date, where an abandoned Mandatory building now stands, thousands of Israelis and tourists will be able to spend every day in the most special tourist center that will be in Haifa and one of the most beautiful in the country, including that it was at the dock of the large cruise ships. The renovated building will contain unique day and night activities and will be directly connected to downtown Haifa. I thank the Ministry of Tourism for the shared vision, the Government Tourism Company for the implementation and the Haifa Municipality for the support and partnership.

exciting.
