On Friday July 17.07.15, 30, about XNUMX dog owners came to Binyamin Garden in the Hadar neighborhood to meet and demand the establishment of a dog park like in the Kiryat Eliezer and Bat Galim areas where dog parks are located for the benefit of the residents of the city and the neighborhood
Meeting of dog owners and residents of the Hadar neighborhoodThe initiative of the project in collaboration with the director of Hadar HaCarmel and students of the Technion's Faculty of Architecture, the dog park project actually started as a task within the "Urban Entrepreneurship" course at the Technion's Faculty of Architecture, the planning of the garden was entrusted by female students named: Shani Shlomowitz, Tal Friedman and Karen Lizarowitz, and Karin Kickenzon.
The students were divided into groups and we were asked to perform an urban act capable of evoking change in our public space.
The dog park idea felt like the right thing to do, a dog park is a successful solution for all parties, the dogs have a defined and fenced place to release their energy, the owner does not have to worry that the dog will run away and disappear and the residents without dogs will not be afraid to sit on the bench in the garden, what's more, a dog park can significantly reduce the The amount of dung in Hadar streets.
The proposed place in the garden to establish the gardenThe architectural plan of the dog parkDog park simulationMany cities in Israel and the world have already adopted the concept, but in Haifa there are only two dog parks, one located in Bat Galim and the other in Kiryat Eliezer.
Two gardens are next to each other but the railroad tracks separate them.
Hadar is a dense and dog-friendly neighborhood. It is fitting that a garden designed for dogs should also be built in Hadar.
The project began by mapping open spaces in Hadar: Ha Zikroon Garden, Hamedatek Garden, an abandoned lot on Tel Hai Street or Binyamin Garden.
It was decided that Binyamin Garden would be the most suitable place because today it is used as a meeting place for dogs, the dogs know the garden and are used to it.
During the last months we consulted with dog owners in the neighborhood. A basic plan of the area was prepared and the idea began to be presented to various parties in the municipality. A couple of dog owners watch their dogs playing in the garden
Karin Kickenzon: Architecture student and the initiator of the meeting"The whole meeting was set up to raise awareness of the establishment of a garden for dogs in Gan Binyamin and that everyone comes to it on a daily basis, and we wanted to formalize the fact that the municipality would recognize it as a garden that dogs also come to on a daily basis, to fence off the area for us and arrange this whole issue as a legal garden where dogs will be comfortable to roam in and the area where we are currently in discussions at the municipality awaiting approval and we hope that this meeting will help us and we also want to fence the area through the municipality and add facilities for dogs and benches, in addition discussions are currently taking place in the municipality regarding the garden because it is the first garden in Israel to have both rehabilitation and is among the first gardens to be preserved And conservation laws also apply to it, which is why the gardens and landscape departments and the conservation department work

Danny Greenblatt is a resident of the neighborhoodIf this place becomes a dog park and is closed and fenced off, what will be the option for the residents? ,
Kirin answers: The dog park is not in the entire garden area but only in the fenced area and it will not look like it does today and will be well-kept and beautiful and I hope that the place will be the new focus and attraction for all dog owners and there will be plenty of room for the rest of the people to walk around and that people will not be afraid to come to the garden because of this, in the garden area will be established Faucets and facilities for dogs for the use of dog owners and residents in the garden, as well as benches, and it will be open to all except the section reserved for dogs.

Tal Friedman is an architecture studentAn architecture student projects the project, the need to establish a garden is increasing because there is an increase in dog owners in the Hadar neighborhood because it is a cohesive neighborhood and this place will also be a neighborhood meeting place, many people walk around with their dogs in inappropriate places and leave feces and dung and do not keep enough, we want to address this issue , we found a suitable place in Binyamin Garden and hundreds of dog owners come to it, we want to give the word for the residents and let them show us how much they are interested in this thing, from the planning aspect of the garden, there is currently a small corner with grass and the place is partially fenced and is not intended for pedestrians who come to enjoy the garden And it does not detract from it and from our point of view it is excellent, the area will have full fencing with a double entrance and exit and places to sit for the dog owners and facilities for the dogs and taps and the basic things and the place is also very shady and bright and close to the entrance and very exposed to the garden and people enjoy this and can look at the dogs without touching them, it should be noted that there are many People in the municipality who currently trust us very much and are trying to promote it, we also located a place and ran plans and talked to concrete people and not something in the air and serious and we hope that it will take a few months until the final establishment
The meeting of the dog owners on the grass with their dogs
Ramit Cohen - resident of the Hadar neighborhoodI've lived here for three years and I think it's simple to talk to the trees and branches here, we turned to the mayor with the organization of some dog owners and nothing happened. I don't live here anymore and we're tired of being afraid of the inspectors tying up the dogs and also being afraid of ambushes and hiding, and all in all we're asking It's fun and in the meantime not to hurt or scare people and we want even big and small dogs to be able to release all their energy and without worries and fears of complaints and supervision and things go on and on and on and on, to the point that people are simply afraid to come to this garden, and want their freedom and that of the dogs.
Michal Katz founded a group please don't interfere in Hadar and she is also the owner of the dog Bobby and through the group and her great contribution to the meeting the dog owners in the area came to the meeting and even sympathized with the establishment of the garden for their dogs. A petition was also set up to recruit more people but at this stage the petition is currently closed.
One of the dog owners suggested that this is also a solution and it is also relevant for the ultra-Orthodox in the neighborhood who are afraid of contact with the dogs and this garden will allow them a safe place and a free place and will also release the dog feces and their droppings to an orderly and clean place
In the Kiryat Eliezer and Bat Galim neighborhoods, dog parks operate with great success, and some of the residents also express joy at the existence of the place. and replacing them in the Kiryat Eliezer neighborhood
The dog park in Kiryat Eliezer near Yoav StreetThe dog park in Bat Galim a closer lookThe dog park in Bat Galim, a view from a distanceLet's all hope that they will also be established for the well-being of dog owners in other neighborhoods around the city, and that the Hadar neighborhood will symbolize for everyone the flag of unity and coexistence between humans and animals, and that they will not become a nuisance and that we will also learn to respect them and take care of them "The dog is man's best friend"
