The founder of the "Galia Method" for learning the laws of physics experientially in kindergartens, Yossi succeeded: "Teaching children dwarfs what I did in the past"
12 years ago, the physicist Yossi Sahih retired from Raphael, and then he discovered his life's calling - he founded the "Galia method", with which he teaches physics and the laws of nature, through humanization and in an experiential way in kindergartens. The method reached China and he was even filmed for Chinese television On the subject of science education for preschoolers.
"I've done a number of things in my life, I was a physicist at MZP, I worked at Rafal on important issues, I founded a successful start-up and initiated interesting things. But teaching children dwarfs everything I've done in the past. Today I can say that I did something positive in my life, which contributed to the future generation." . This is how the physicist Yossi Sahih (70) describes his experience teaching science to children using the "Galia Method".
"How do you do it?" • From the film about science education in Israel - filmed by the Chinese production company "ox3" in the Hod HaCarmel Gardens in Haifa | Watch
The one and a half year old granddaughter learned about the moon
He graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics at the Hebrew University and a master's degree in nuclear physics. After that he worked for several years in the police department, then moved from Jerusalem to Haifa to work in Raphael as a physicist. In 1995, when he was on sabbatical, he founded a cardiology startup that was successfully sold.
12 years ago, he retired from Raphael and a new path was revealed to him: he explained to his granddaughter, who was only one and a half years old at the time, about the moon, when his daughter, who heard the beautiful explanation, offered him to teach physics to small children on a voluntary basis.
"Teach the children the way I would like them to teach me"
Suchid approached Eli Dokorski, the mayor of Kiryat Bialik, with the interesting initiative, who brought him together with the head of the education department, Ami Reuven. Succeed was asked to formulate a plan. "I was constantly thinking about how I explain the basics of nature to children, and I realized that I would like to teach the way I would like to be taught. To make children understand the processes of nature through experiments and through materials," says Sahih.
That's how he started successfully teaching in kindergartens in Kiryat Bialik.
Galia
Succeed called the project he initiated "Gallia Method", In the name of his daughter Galia, who was killed by a car at the entrance of the school where she studied in the gifted class, when she was in the third grade.
"Anything can be explained to anyone"
With the help of the unique method, he teaches physics at a very high level to the young children, experientially and through personification. "I developed experiments in which the children become physically familiar with the physical phenomenon. For example, how is the wind created? The children imagine themselves as particles in the air, which are sometimes dense and sometimes not dense, and then it turns out that all the children participate in one big show. I developed a method in which everything can be explained, to everyone Even the parents are enthusiastic and say they didn't know everything," says Sahih.
"The kids didn't want to go"
To date, he has managed to teach about 3500 children in kindergartens and lower grades in Haifa and the surrounding area. The former Minister of Education Shay Piron heard about the method and was very enthusiastic about it. Seyed says that the first time he taught at a school in Haifa, the children waited for him and did not want to leave the class.
"I try very hard to find those who are shy to speak, turn to them and encourage them to ask and answer," he says.
In special education schools, Seyed also taught the Galia method, and in 2018, Seyed told about the method to Einat Kalish Rotem and her deputy, Nachshon Tzuk, during her run for mayor of Haifa, and both of them were very impressed with what Seyed imparts in the kindergartens.
Yossi succeeded:
It is unbelievable how small children understand things and explain them in such a simple way. My goal is that the next generation of scientists and engineers will not only be good scientists and people but also thinkers. I would like more children to learn to think as researchers, the essence of the "Galia method" is the development of exploratory thinking.
They also came from China to see
A few months ago, Chinese TV came to Israel to film a film about early childhood science education, in which he participated and succeeded with the unique method he developed. He sent the video to Einat Kalish Rotem and she was very enthusiastic.
Zayed strives to guide people with a scientific background who believe in the Galia method, and to spread the method as much as possible, and also, that the Haifa municipality will recognize it and its ability to contribute to science education for preschoolers in Haifa and in general.
What an exciting role the man took on. How much originality, emotion and creativity. bless you Growing up in a curious, thinking and experimenting generation is the deep thought of education for his name. Normal school education is light years and a generation away from what education really should be and contribute to children.
Wow amazing, this is part of my vision to improve the level of education in the world
and add financial management to each child and encourage entrepreneurship
It is more modern than reading and writing
How can I talk to Yosef Moslayh?
I would love to talk about a shared vision
My name is Avraham Shalom. My previous comment was mistakenly typed as Avraham Shlop.
It is gratifying to read that physicist Ish Raphael, after retiring, devotes his time to teaching children in an advanced way.
The man's name is also interesting. In the congregations of Mosel and Baghdad in Iraq, the Arabic name Salih was accepted, corresponding to the Hebrew form Salah (t in Kemtz to Basra) or the Hebrew name Success. She did indeed write about an excellent person who is successful in his actions for the benefit of the children of Israel after he contributed to the security of the country.
Amazing. Must spread.
How do you get in touch with Yossi Sahih? I would be happy to implement the method in my kindergarten
Thank you very much for all the encouraging comments. Indeed, the issue of educating children "in a different way" that will bring them closer to nature out of curiosity and desire, is very important. It is important to continue the path by organizing a group of retired teachers/engineers/scientists (possible also those who are still active) and guiding them on how to teach the child to be a partner in learning and research.
I would also like to see the training of more instructors using this method so that there are mainly pensioners throughout the country. Thanks
I did a similar natural science course for kindergartens in Russia. How to meet and learn from Yosef

Congratulations Mr. Yossi succeeded on the Gallia method for teaching science to kindergarten children. His method must be introduced in all Israel's kindergartens and this will cause a significant perceptual change for the children and give them skills for the future. The teaching methods in the schools also need to change in order for Israel to take advantage of our human and quality resources and then there will be more engineers and scientists who will adapt In the future for the development and stabilization of Israel's economy and its development, the time will come when the Ministry of Education will have a professional minister who will implement the wretched Galia method
All the best to Yossi! Instilling in children the solid foundation of physics studies is really a long-term investment for everyone. Well done for the original idea and the even more original execution. well done!
It is important to teach physics. Shabbat Shalom
Joseph
Congratulations on the important work!!
I would also like to be taught differently...
Good luck later!
Sounds fascinating and true. I wish it would be included as part of the curriculum.
As long as it is in the hands of Nachshon and Einat it will not happen.
A huge wish for Yossi Saghe who manages to be an example and a role model, how can one man make such a big change. I wish other cities in Israel and the world would adopt the method. It is indeed proper and appropriate to light a torch on Independence Day.
A person like you deserves appreciation and recognition!
Who chooses beacon lights?
Who selects candidates for the Israel Prize? The time has come for volunteers to be given a platform, and Oram will illuminate and highlight those who volunteer for others
He also guided teachers with great success
Well done. A smart and beautiful idea. Many thanks to Succeed.
(And especially thank you for bringing us a good and positive "method from success")!!
Well done, holy work!
Now all that remains is to find some physical law that will throw Klish and her uneducated helpers out of here...
. It is indeed a noble deed. I wish you a good and healthy life and may you see a blessing in his labor.
