Surfing at Bat Galim in an eastern wind is one of the fun and dangerous adventures that a surfer can arrange for himself. The strong winds usually blow at a speed of 20-30 knots and on the strongest days the gusts reach up to 60 knots.
The risk stems from the fact that the surfing is off shore and that there is no club with rescue and rescue services at Bat Galim beach
In general, every surfer must try to plan the surf so that he can go downwind back to a safe beach in case of a malfunction.
In other words, you are surfing where you should be sharpening back to the spot, you are not well placed.
The danger of maneuvering below the spot (!)
In the Mizrahios, I see many experienced surfers maneuvering under the spot, that is, in the area of the institute, or in front of the club far in the depth...to me it always seems like a crazy gamble to surf in this way.
In such a position, under the spot, in an Off-shore wind, every smallest malfunction in the equipment prevents you from sharpening back and you enter a distress situation immediately.
A small fault = a torn trapeze, a pulled muscle, a broken bridle pulley, a broken gimbal, a broken fin, a torn strap in a surfboard, a broken manor, etc.

danger of drifting
Please remember that a windsurfer and a kitesurfer are not really sharpening machines.
The surfboard sharpens back only when it's normal. Everyone who surfs under the spot must remember this!!!!!!!
the solution:
Surfing only above the spot - in front of Rambam
And if you have to go deep to refine from the club to Rambam, then do it as close to the beach as possible and quickly.
When surfing in front of Rambam, you can go downwind back to the club in almost any situation.
And if there is a problem, the surfer who is in trouble passes by his friends who help him.
Chumza the spirit in Rambam is usually much more stable, but that is another question.
Comments
theRe 1:
I have to say that in all the years I've been surfing at Bat Galim I've always kept this principle.
Please note that all the kiters surf in front of the quiet beach for this reason only and even pay a subscription fee just to reduce the exposure to a drift fault.
Note 2:
In a southeast wind there is no escape route. The wind is OFF SHORE along all Haifa beaches.
Therefore, in my humble opinion, it is forbidden to surf in the southeast without a rescue boat attached.
Note 3:
The article and diagram were published in 2006 on the Kite Sight website and in my estimation contributed a lot to the understanding of safety margins among kite surfers
