11 cases of death of elderly children in Haifa resulted in a blessed initiative • Join in too!
After no fewer than 11 cases in which the bodies of elderly people were discovered in the city, sometimes in a state of advanced decay, the residents of the Hadar neighborhood, various associations in the city and the welfare department decided to put an end to this shocking phenomenon and launch a large-scale mapping operation.
Yesterday (Wednesday 6/1/21) a meeting was held in which 32 people participated, among them council members Naama Lazimi and Liraz Elol with the heads of the associations: the youth center, Shas, Kibbutz Ha'Hachanim, Gerin Torani, Kehillat Carmel and Rabin Preparatory, Lev Hash , the Hadar neighborhood council, inspectors, the social network volunteers, the people of the Authority for the Absorption of Aliyah and students from the welfare department. A decision was made to map, in the next two weeks, about 6000 elderly people aged 65 and over.
Mittal Roth, A resident of the neighborhood and a member of the Hadar Council, tells about the goals of the operation:
- A reduction, in the pursuit of a break, of the horrifying phenomenon of the death of lonely elderly people in their homes.
- Increasing the attention of the community and the neighbors to the elderly residents who live in their surroundings.
- Increasing the database and information that the Department of Social Services has in Hadar about the elderly in the neighborhood.
- Pooling resources of the department, the social network, volunteers, social compassion, municipal departments, the Hadar community, mission communities and neighborhoods in change with the aim of responding to the elderly in the neighborhood.
As part of the operation, the volunteers will go door-to-door and check if there are residents in the apartment over the age of 65. If so, they will conduct a survey on the spot, through an online form. The survey will be analyzed by the Social Security Council in collaboration with the Department of Social Services and the Welfare Division, with the aim of locating the neighborhood risk group and formulating targeted action regarding this group. In addition, flyers about the activity will be distributed, posters will be posted and people will be invited to get vaccinated.

Naama Lazimi, a member of the city council who was present at the meeting, adds:
In Hadar, an inspiring mix of joint work of non-profit organizations, volunteers, neighborhood activists and cooperative communities was created along with the system elements from welfare, education and the municipality in general. This allows for a comprehensive understanding of needs, great knowledge and true cooperation that is all for the benefit of the neighborhood, one that has established foundations for years. Therefore, it is natural that in such a project, there will be a broad and hopeful forum for the treatment of the phenomenon on the part of all the partners and the parties together.

A second before the tight lockdown goes into effect, it is important that we all be vigilant about the elderly and young people around us, only in this way can we create social solidarity and a city we can be proud of. To volunteer - 0546735217.
A welcome and important action. Kudos to Mittel Roth and all those involved in the craft
The time has come, I'm glad that someone in the Haifa municipality has finally woken up. Everyone should be connected to emergency buttons through social security and the many associations that take care of the elderly.
The elderly population should be helped.
