The public transportation revolution is coming to the Haifa metropolis. The Superbus company won a tender to operate the metro lines in the Haifa metropolis and undertakes to increase the service by 50%
As part of the plan of the Ministry of Transport, the Sofbus company will increase by tens of percent the public transport services all over the country and significantly improve the service for passengers.
The Superbus company will operate the three Matron lines, currently operated by the "Dan North" company, and two new subway lines, including the tunnel line (Line 4), which connects the Kiryat with the Hoof HaCarmel central station at the exit from Haifa, through the Carmel tunnels and a new subway line (Line 5) to Nesher City, which will connect the Yagor intersection through the Bar-Yehuda road in Nesher, to the Hadar neighborhood in Haifa.
Minister Regev Lahi here:
We continue to promote the expansion of the subway network to Acre and the Rivers in the north and to the Carmel Castle in the south, and plan to add another urban service within Haifa, with the aim of providing the residents of the north with an accessible, fast and cheap public transportation service
The new tender includes the activation of 120 matrons, compared to 100 matrons today. As part of the tender, 50 electric metros will be operated for the first time in Israel, which will make up about 40% of the franchisee's vehicle fleet and will enable faster and quieter travel. The rest of the matrons will meet the strict "Euro 6" air pollution standard.
The Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Brigadier General Miri Regev, stated that the move is part of the smart transportation revolution, which will bring good news to the residents of Haifa and the north and will significantly improve the public transportation system in the Haifa metropolis. Carmel in the south, and they plan to add another municipal service within Haifa, with the aim of allowing the residents of the north accessible, fast and cheap public transportation."
The "Dan North" company currently operates three matron lines, with a total length of about 40 kilometers. These lines cross Haifa and Kiryat and connect the Gulf cities to Haifa, through the Israel Railways stations and transportation centers in the area.
The matrons will have priority on the road, in the existing and planned routes and at traffic lights. The drivers in the matronies will benefit from a physical separation between them and the passengers, which will allow them a continuous and safe journey. The Ministry of Transportation allocated dedicated budgets to improve the infrastructure on the routes, including the construction of new sheds at the stations, improvement of existing stations and more.
The Superbus company will upgrade the charging and validation systems placed at the stations, as well as the information signs that inform passengers about the arrival of the matron in real time (next-bus), with integrated interactive signage, which also displays information on the various lines.
The Ministry of Transportation continues to upgrade public transportation throughout the country, and improve transportation accessibility in the north and south.
Minister Regev "My vision is that every person, anywhere in Israel, will be able to leave their home and get to their place of work or school, comfortably and quickly, without wasting precious and unnecessary time standing in traffic jams and looking for parking. The only solution for this is available, fast and efficient public transportation."
The lines in this cluster will be activated in two pulses. In nine months, the Superbus company will operate the matron lines that are currently operated, plus spot improvements, and about six months later, the company will also operate the new service lines
