Scout campers in Haifa during the operation to clean up the wadis, found a rare species of the bush honeysuckle that is on the verge of extinction
The scouts in Haifa in grades 8 to 12 started a huge operation to clean the streams on Mount Carmel. As part of the volunteering operation, the scouts, in cooperation with members of the Society for the Protection of Nature, go to the streams of Mount Carmel every Friday and collect dirt, food scraps and waste left by other hikers After them, or trash that was washed away in the river channel.
The cleaning and volunteering activity is based on the "adoption" of the scout tribes of the streams that are geographically close to them. Among the streams that the Scouts apprentices clean: Nahal Shikh, Nahal Latam, Givat Aizim, Nahal Azov, the stream leading to the student beach and many other streams. In total, 14 streams in Haifa.

As part of the activity, Carmel tribe trainees came to clean the Amiram stream near a mansion in Haifa. On a tour of the cleared area, together with the members of the Society for the Protection of Nature, the Scout campers located the growth and regeneration of the bush hawkmoth, a rare species that is in serious danger of extinction, and which to this day could be seen mainly in Nahal Shikh, named after the rare species, and the slopes of the mountain between it and Nahal Amik to the north and Nahal Azov to the south.
The stream cleaning operation of the Haifa scouts will continue in the coming months and is only part of the variety of volunteering and community help activities in which the scouts are currently working all over the country.

Raz Perel, chairman of the scout movement:
We were happy to return to regular activity in the movement and we set ourselves, together with the youth, to volunteer as much as we can and promote important social goals all over the country. The trainees of the scout youth movement, in the senior levels and the year of service, have been working in recent months all over the country and in a variety of volunteering areas for the benefit of the community, and I am happy that even on their free Fridays from school they choose to spend time in a blessed volunteer activity.
Adoption and adoption program led by Haifa is a joint project with the Society for the Protection of Nature and the Green Heart Forum. Each tribe that operates in the neighborhoods of the ridge above Carmel or on the slopes of Carmel has an urban nature trail adjacent to it.
As part of the project, each tribe embraces the stream: takes care of monthly cleaning, re-breaking and marking the path, reporting sewage hazards or dumping contractor waste. The tribe also increases awareness among the residents about the wonderful ecosystem on these routes: endangered plant species (such as the bush milkweed), endangered animal species, natural evergreen vegetation, wild boar habitats and much more.
This project puts the "backyard" in the center and reflects the values of nature and sustainability to which the movement strives. The 14 streams receive a periodic visit and proper maintenance and the campers have a small group experience in nature!
Cheers to the Boy Scouts in Haifa. Well done for the cleaning. Shabbat Shalom to you.
It's a shame that Klish remembered to authorize the viewers to return to activity for a minute before the lockdown.
That's her logic.
Not to allow when there are 500 infected a day and wait for 5000.
As it is known that the open air operations are in capsules.
And this is how the forest is prevented from developing and flourishing.
A real scandal
For viewers, the most important thing but the most important! Beware of the scout oath!
All the best to the viewers. Be strong and adopt!!!
They tried to find something that would raise the awareness of cleanliness among the youth and come on, here they found a "special" bush that I see every day on my nature trips - that's enough.
Why go indirectly -
Aspire to the scouts and the Society for the Protection of Nature for this welcome initiative. It's a shame that the Haifa municipality led by Kalish Hoadith is not interested in Haifa at all, contrary to its promises during the election period.
Can I please see a picture of the rare bush found growing in Carmel? thanks.
