(haipo) - The Carmel Tunnels protest left Facebook and reached the street: Dozens demonstrated last night (Thursday) at the entrance to the tunnels in the Check Post area, with Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav standing next to them: "I think that taking a section of six and a half kilometers three times the length of the Trans-Israel Highway is a scandal."
A few dozen participated last night (Thursday) in the Carmel Tunnels protest, despite the great support that reached about 29,000 on the Facebook page. The demonstrators waved signs that read: "The robbery tunnels" - "Boycott consumers until the prices are lowered" - "You don't see the light at the end of the tunnel" - Carmel Tunnels Dairy" and more... and called on the drivers who were on their way to cross the tunnel, not to use it and to boycott it.
Ruti Benin, a resident of Atlit from my initiative and the organizers of the protest: "What brought us to the street and brought us to the demonstration is that we have been protesting on social media for a whole month and no one contacted us or spoke to us. Simply, we are not counted and we are not trying to achieve anything. I think that moving a few minutes away should be a friendly price that everyone will benefit from, But today, those who use this tunnel are only the rich."
Regarding the poor response of the demonstrators, Ruthie said: "When they receive the invoice, they will realize that they cannot continue to support Sherry Arison. This was the first swallow, we plan to continue and we will not stop this protest until we lower the prices."
Roni Benin from the initiative and organizers of the protest: "We want to know what kind of economic model, what is the basis on which they continue to raise the price by fifty percent. I think that all Israeli citizens would be willing to compromise on an additional 30%. There are many people in the country who have little means, there is increasing poverty, on the other hand the state is involved in some kind of An agreement that was not revealed to us and no one is willing to reveal the agreement - even though there is freedom of information in Israel, no one is willing to tell us what the agreement is and on what basis the prices are rising, when we know from inside information that the final destination is 10 shekels each way."
Demonstrators with Yona YahavHaifa Mayor Yona Yahav, who was the first to oppose the price increase and the first to cheer on the Facebook social network against the increase, stood by the protesters in the street. To Hai Pa's question about how he did not know in advance about the price increase plan that is updated from time to time, he explained: "The contract was signed about a decade before I became mayor so I could not be privy to the matter and while working they never disclosed the document and the target to this day they have not disclosed it. What we do know is the increases that are actually being carried out."
"I think that taking three times the Israeli highway is a scandal, it's six and a half kilometers. As soon as a person goes there and back once a day, he pays 700 shekels a month - you have to take out a mortgage to finance the trips. We come and say enough, it's not reasonable, let's do the math and spread out This increase over several years and it will be easier for people in their pockets."
Yahav said to Lahi Fe, that this week we will meet with the Director General of the Ministry of Transportation and people dealing with the issue, "Everyone has sympathy but I don't see anyone doing anything. We'll see if we continue to press and the audience will continue to cooperate and continue to do the work on social networks. In the end, I believe there will be pressure that will do the job."
Dodi Miblom is active in the Human and Environment forum: "The franchisee got a big piece of candy and he raises the prices and makes fun of us. All those who can travel in the tunnels are only the rich and that was not the intention."

Carmel tunnels - closed due to greed
Eli Debi, social activist: "There is a protest here that needs to be followed. It doesn't make sense that we pay 17-18 shekels and if I do it once or twice a day I have to take out a mortgage. It's time to make a protest and end this story."
David Pso: "The tycoons are oppressing us - the little citizen. Just as there will be a fight against the banks and cell phone companies in the past, we will fight for every shekel."
