Get the breakdown of the members of the city council in Haifa, between those who do not care about losing human life because of coalition considerations and between those who care about the health of the residents living in Haifa.
In the Shaar Aliya neighborhood, 400 families live in buildings with crumbling asbestos walls. The families living in these buildings purchased their apartments from the state, in good faith, not knowing about the dangers of asbestos and also because that was what they could get. The houses and the tenants in the place are the responsibility of the Haifa municipality.
It has been known for years that this is a real and immediate danger to life, and the possibility of lung cancer of the most dangerous type there is. It is not up to the residents who live in the neighborhood to take care of this health hazard because of the high costs that they cannot afford and because it is forbidden by law to take care of asbestos without trained professionals.
The member of the city council on behalf of the Haifa faction, Tali Meshulam Itach, has been dealing with the issue for a long time and has not been able to get any support or assistance from the municipality to help the residents living at high risk. This is an amount that the municipality easily approves if it is an average performance or an event that looks good in the media. In the case in question, the municipality closes its hand. This week, Tali brought the issue up for discussion at the city council meeting and asked that the Haifa municipality, which is responsible for the issue, stop dragging its feet.
We are not innocent people, but we were amazed to see the cynicism of the price for sitting in the coalition. And it is important to us that the other residents of the city see this. It's amazing that even on this very sensitive issue, the municipal coalition continues to choose to vote blindly according to the dictates they received in advance. Even those whose election platform and public relations declarations enshrine concern for others and the weaker than you, precisely those who boast of helping the underprivileged, voted with the coalition group and thus revealed their true face.
So here it is, green and red on the screen - the council members who despise human life (and didn't even announce that they would try to address the issue):
Mayor Yahav's faction, the Israel Beitenu faction, the ultra-Orthodox faction (a combination of Agudat HaTorah and Shas), Hadash, Likud, Haifa lovers and the pensioners announced in their vote that the residents of Shaar Aliya were condemned to live in houses with crumbling and dangerous asbestos parts, and they are actually not interesting them.
The Greens were also absent from the yeshiva. Isn't this a first class issue as a green issue?
The council member who abstained - Yossi Shalom Mish Atid Haifa Youth. The other members of his faction were absent. Maybe it's not important enough to vote for mind control.
The council members who took care of the lives of the residents of Haifa in this vote: Jamal Khamis (Bald), Sharit Golan Steinberg (Change in Haifa), Yaakov Borovsky (Change in Haifa), Einat Kalish Rotem (Life in Haifa), and Tali Meshulam Itach (Life in Haifa ).
Haifa people need to know in whose hands their lives are and who really cares about them.
We will continue to fight and look for a solution to remove the danger of asbestos from the residents' homes.
- Proposal for agenda - Council meeting on 041..1.4 -
621.01.4 Haifa
in honor of
Mr. Yona Yahav,
Mayor of Haifa
In question: Shaar Alia neighborhood
For many years the residents of the Shaar Alia neighborhood have been suffering from an environmental hazard - asbestos sheets covering residential buildings.
It is enough for one asbestos fiber to penetrate the respiratory system to cause fatal lung cancer.
There are currently 12 buildings in the Shaar Aliya neighborhood in Haifa, where 044 families live, which previously belonged to
to the Ministry of Housing. The tenants bought the apartments from the state with their little savings and here today - it turns out that the buildings
Asbestos crumbles from beaches and threatens their health.
A reformed state would not allow the sale of property made of asbestos without ensuring its proper maintenance. on head
The city has the duty and responsibility to remove the asbestos immediately to protect the health of the residents.
The residents who contacted us, mostly new immigrants who purchased public housing from the state, tell of threatening letters
in fines and criminal proceedings that the Haifa municipality sent to them. In a letter, the municipality of Haifa informed the residents that they need
clear the coating of the "hazard" where they live within 04 days. In the letter, the municipality explains that it acts by force
law, but you forget to mention some small details - since this substance is easily released, laws were enacted that prohibit
Removing it unprofessionally. Any asbestos removal operation requires a team of experts qualified to perform it
these actions. In addition, a permit is required from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and removing asbestos without this permit is a misdemeanor
the law
When the Haifa municipality wrote the letter, it probably did not take into account the financial capital needed to clear the hazard,
which is not in the pockets of the tenants who purchased their home.
To the best of our knowledge, there were discussions with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, when the last summary came out on 41.20 and in it they write no.
Factors, such as: Shekmona - CEO, Amidar - Haifa Branch Manager, Haifa Municipality - Attorney Daganit Koren, Adam Association
Nature and Law and 0 representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection. It seems that since then, no senior manager in the municipality or deputy mayor has taken over
himself to handle a matter so sensitive to the environment and human life. To the best of our understanding, according to the agreement with the Ministry of Defense
The environment, the municipality of Haifa was required to make the cost calculations for each resident - both the cost calculations for removing panels
broken, to remove all the boards in general, and also, an offer that includes a price for a new covering, which you will pass on to the tenants in a form
to sign an undertaking. The municipality was supposed to use the community worker and the welfare worker in order to clarify
The things.
I would like to find out - what happened since the last summary? Have things progressed? We learned that the representatives of the municipality arrived at the scene
And they saw the many hazards on Saadia Paz St. in question, but so far nothing has changed on the ground. According to the residents, at
The cost calculation was not received today. I would love to find out if this is true. If there is a calculation, I will ask to receive a copy
Learn. Mr. Yahav, 044 families, men, women and children are exposed to a serious health hazard every day. Also people passing by
In the neighborhood, under the buildings the crumbling asbestos endangers their health. As mayor, you are responsible for these people -
and immediate removal of the asbestos.
In the opinion submitted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection to the Municipality of Haifa, it is stated that action must be taken to remove the hazard and not wait
More . We have the duty, as elected representatives of the Haifa public, to ask for explanations and solutions for such situations that endanger the
The health of our residents. I would be happy if all the members of the council, and the head of it, would send him to have a tour of the neighborhood with me, and see
How to bring about the appropriate solutions, and as soon as possible.
I hereby request that the Honorable Council approve the settlement proposal and hold a principled discussion on it,
which in itself serves to make clear to all concerned the seriousness that the council attaches to the issue.
For the body of the proposal, we request that the Haifa City Council demand that the Haifa Municipality carry out immediate treatment
in removing the asbestos panels and promoting the issue according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Environmental Protection under
Schedules are defined and summarized, and lead to the beginning of the recovery process of the Shaar Aliya neighborhood
and the said buildings immediately.
