The cause of the fire was a cell phone charger that was left connected to the electrical outlet (without the phone) that caused the fire to break out.
Three teams of fire fighters from the Haifa regional station under the command of assistant firefighter Hazi Bigar were called today (18.12.2014) to Yigal Alon Street in Kiryat Motzkin following a fire that broke out in a residential apartment in a high-rise building.
The apartment where the fire took place is located on the 19th floor out of the 24 floors of the building.
The owners of the apartment were outside the house, and when they got to it they recognized the fire in the emergency room and did the right thing - they closed the emergency room door and thus actually isolated the fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the house.
The firefighters who were called to the scene, got control of the fire and continued with operations to release smoke and ventilate the apartment.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
An arson investigator from the Fire Authority who investigated the scene found that a cell phone charger that was left connected to the electrical outlet (without the phone) caused the fire.
We at the Fire Authority are once again reminding the public to avoid leaving electrical devices charging unattended, and to disconnect chargers that are not in use from the electrical current.
