These days the Yaffe Nof company is starting to adapt the Pacific coast to the Model 470 Sailing World Championship, which will be held in 2015. The development work is being done in accordance with the standards of the Olympic Association for this model and under its supervision.
As part of the works, which began about a week ago, judicial and administrative offices, locker rooms for athletes and sailors, construction of an assembly plaza, installation of measurement and weighing facilities for sailboats, construction of communication and press facilities and shading facilities and development of architectural landscapes are being established. The representatives of the Olympic Committee will visit the facility during the month of October, in order to give permission for an Olympic facility. The works for the construction of the Olympic facility on the Pacific coast, at a cost of about one and a half million NIS, will last about three months.
Live system comment here:
The 470 sailboat is a popular Olympic model in the world and is considered an "adult" model. Senior youth sailors usually advance and upgrade to the 470 model, if they excel in the 420 model, which is considered a "youth model". In the past, Israel had senior sailors who competed at the top of the world in this model. Among those known today are Samson Brockman and Eitan Friedlander, who were ranked number one in the world in 80, but did not participate in the Moscow Olympics due to a boycott against the Russians that existed at that time.
There are 2 boats of this model in Haifa, but they are not being sailed at this stage, since there are no senior crews capable of operating them.
Lahi Pa learned that the Haifa Sailing Association intends to train teams of young sailors who will compete in the competition, but they have no real chance of competing against the senior sailors who will make it to the championship.
" .... there are two boats and they are not sailed either .." ????
So what is all the work for?
