About the martial art of Taekwondo:
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that combines fighting techniques with proper use of legs and hands for self-defense. The way of Taekwondo is an essential component of every movement and every movement has a scientific meaning and a specific purpose.
Taekwondo improves concentration abilities, strengthens self-confidence and releases energies in a positive way.
In 2014, the martial art of Taekwondo was officially recognized as a full-fledged sport by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Israel.
On the occasion of the impressive tournament, we conducted an interview with Sergey Kharchenko He has been a master of martial arts since his childhood and photographs with the boys and instructors studying and training in Taekwondo under his guidance.
Sergey manages the tradition of training in the 3 national teams in the city.
Sergei Immigrated from Kyrgyzstan in 1996 and settled directly in Neve Shanan. In his native country of Kyrgyzstan, he began training at the age of 14 under the guidance of a Korean instructor.
In Kyrgyzstan, Sergey progressed in the sport of taekwondo until he was appointed the senior coach of the national team, which won gold and silver medals in world championships held in Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Poland, the Czech Republic and Moscow.
Sergey holds the prestigious title of International Taekwondo Coach and Judge.
since his arrival in Israel Sergei He continued the career he started in Kyrgyzstan and developed the martial art of taekwondo in Israel in a thorough and in-depth manner.
The tradition of training and organizing the teams began in 1996, without an organized hall. Then, in 1997, the training center was established at the Tel Hai school. Starting in 1998, the trainings were also established at Beit Abba Khushi in Haifa.

The current tournament was held at the Neve Yosef community center, which he organized Artyom Kharchenko, Sergey's son, who is a 2nd dan black belt. Artyom has been training since the age of 3 and at the age of 8 he received a bronze medal for winning an international competition up to 25 kg.
Artyom Kharchenko specializes in working with children with various disabilities.
He manages the day-to-day activities of several training centers in the Haifa region: Neve Yosef, Dror Alia, Shlava and Ironi C. community centers.
In the training centers there are different age groups starting from the age of 3 to the age of 35.
The training program takes place under the supervision of Sergey Kharchenko (father), who is the head coach of all the teams in the Haifa region.
Martial arts representatives from all over the country and all types of martial arts are invited to the open competitions in Haifa. The competitions are held twice a year. For the first time, close to the Hanukkah holiday, a competition is held against all the schools of the three centers in Haifa, and representatives from schools in the Kiryat areas are also invited, such as the Kiyo-Ko-Sin-Kai karate school from the Kiryat under the guidance of Ivan Pykov, who holds a 5th dan black belt .
The second annual event is held at the end of the school year in June-July every year, which is also the current event.
The purpose of the training centers is to develop this branch of fighting, to show fighting technique and tactics and of course the competitors' self-control.
It is worth noting the great importance of practicing martial arts in contributing to personal self-confidence beyond the sporting achievements and the important physical development it provides to the participants.
The classes are run, it should be noted, with the funding of the parents who are proud of their children's achievements, including the purchase of the appropriate outfits and without a helpful contribution from the community center or the Haifa municipality.
An important international achievement was achieved by the group of competitors in 2012 when they were in a tournament in England, Brighton in the World Cup competitions, where competitors from the team of Beit Abba Khushi under the guidance of Sergey won the honorable fourth place (winner: Yevgeny Marin black belt 2nd dan) and two other competitors won the fifth place.
In March 2014, the team achieved another important achievement when 9-year-old trainee Shay Optov, a 1st dan black belt from Abba Khushi, under Sergi's guidance, won a bronze medal in an international competition held in Barcelona, Spain.
Unfortunately, despite the achievements, the Haifa municipality does not support this group in any way. Therefore, the team is not associated with the name "Haifa" in national competitions.

Amir Pankar, 9 years old, who twice won first place in the Wingate Olympics
