One of the well-known and central intersections in the city of Haifa, will soon undergo a change • at a cost of NIS 900
After many years - good news for drivers: turn left from Geula Street to Hapoel Street
As part of the works that will begin at the beginning of June 2020, a left turn from Geula Street to Hapoel Street will be made.
This is good news for many drivers in Haifa and the area, who until now had to make a prohibited U-turn on Arlozorov Street and will now be able to reach the streets directly: Hapoel, Kinneret, Leon Bloom, Maimoni, Bar Giora and Rabbi Akiva and go up towards Carmel.
The plan includes geometric changes at the intersection, without renouncing thinking and concern for pedestrian safety.
As part of the changes, a new traffic lane will cross the traffic island in favor of turning left and a new crosswalk on Arlozorov Street will allow a more convenient and safer crossing of the busy street. Meanwhile, the traffic light system will also be upgraded in favor of the changes, and will be reprogrammed in order to allow turning to the left as well as continuous crossing of the road by pedestrians.
This is a very complex intersection, with regional transportation implications, where safety cannot be compromised.
Therefore, during the planning process, the traffic engineers examined a number of alternatives that would make it possible to carry out the requested improvements, without harming all road users and the functioning of the signposted intersection. The chosen alternative, recommended by the traffic engineers, was approved by the Ministry of Transportation and the Israel Police.
The project will be carried out by the infrastructure department of the Haifa municipality, at a total cost of about 900 thousand NIS and is expected to last about three months.
Mayor of Haifa, Einat Kalish Rotem
This is a real change. Physical modification of the intersection, adding crossings and reprogramming the traffic light system accordingly. In short, the left is put into the Hapoel Geula.
There are many more problematic intersections and transportation problems to solve in the city. We are aware, we don't forget, and we hope for more news soon."
Deputy Mayor, Michy Alper
This is a project whose impact is wider than the intersection where it is carried out, as it has cross-cutting effects on traffic in the Hadar neighborhood. For years, there has been an urgent need to improve safety and service at the intersection and turn left onto Hapoel St., the mayor has not let go of the issue and has demanded planning that takes into account all aspects required at the intersection. The start of the works after a long planning that included various alternatives is great news for the residents and we thank the mayor for that.
Regarding traffic jams in Geula, since the opening of Nahal HaGborim, the traffic in Geula has decreased, so there is no problem turning to Hapoel from the left lane
This is how they endlessly waste public money.
20 years ago they made all the changes at the intersection to eliminate the ability to go from Geula to Carmel in an easy way because it put a lot of burden on the Geula axis. There were huge traffic jams and as soon as they canceled this turn to the left, the traffic jams went down a lot. Because those who wanted to get to Hapoel knew that they were going up to Arlozorov and making a detour, so it would be better to go to Ramat Hadar and go down the Leon Blum road. What will happen now and it is clear that the traffic jams on Geula Street will increase a lot, especially that the road going down from the neighborhood towards Geula is added in Bordia, thousands more cars will load on Geula and then the residents will complain and in five years they will announce that with a budget of one million shekels they will cancel the left turn.
Finally!!! Maybe the mayor is starting to wake up? well done!!! Waiting to see more projects for the benefit of the public and not only for the benefit of the municipality (see the subject of parking...)
Thank you for the consideration of the driver and his needs, correct thinking on the part of the city leadership headed by Mrs. Klish
Is the next holiday "Shavuot" or "Holiday of flattery"?
Finally. Akiva Street was a trap. Every time you leave it, you have to go to the Geula Dormitory. Entering Akiva for everyone who came from the tunnels and Nosh required a huge detour again.
Now maybe it's time to also allow a short exit from Akiva Street to Gaola. There used to be a lot of traffic on Gola Street, since the new roads are open the street is not busy and maybe it is possible to make the change now. This was also the case years ago.
In the meantime, congratulations to the mayor for listening to the plight of the residents. Thank you
In the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, Akiva Street was one-way and the direction of travel was from Goula towards the lower part of Leon Blum and the garden, most of which was destroyed in favor of the basketball court between Akiva and Zpora Zeid.
Later, someone decided that the well-remembered line 2 would replace line 10, which would continue to the Redemption Dormitory, and then the direction of travel was reversed.
There was a face many years ago, it is not understood why it was changed at the time why it costs so much money
Adding a traffic light in Goula and erasing the traffic block costs NIS 900,000. Shame. oh yes Adding a wire line between the switchboard and the traffic light. Lots of work.
The police are investigating…
And what about the "Autostrada" on Hulda Street - exclusive entrance and exit to "Elisha" hospital/elderly?!?!? Danger to the lives of visitors and residents of the street for years!!!!! No solution!!!! The official entrance that was planned for "Elisha" - through Yair Katz Street - has been closed for years - "by order of the municipality"!!!!!!….
The time has come - well done
I remember that 30 years ago there was a left turn and it was cancelled.
Make a left turn between Cocos Street and Spaghetti Street. They engage in nonsense instead of donating the money to the needy or the homeless on the street, preparing a road to turn onto Hapoel Street. Wow. Clap your feet to Alfer. It's good that you don't want to make a U-turn between Beitar Street and Maccabi.
All the best and thank you for the blessed work.
No matter what they do, there are always those who approach and complain.. in a hot summer, in a cold winter..
?? ♂️
What impudence! Corruption in the municipality! Waste of money! Bad management! This was in the past. The road turned to Hapoel many years ago, 20 or 30 years ago, and then the municipality changed it in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation, so they return it to the way it was - that's fine, but it's a shame they made a change in the past
Well done to you, the Haifa Municipality team, an important and necessary change in Haifa's road network????
1. There is no Redemption Arlozorov intersection. Gaola Street meets along its entire length:
Hapoel
Ben Zakai stairs
Beitar stairs
Bezalel
Kaniel
Rupees.
2. The elders of Hadar (I lived until 6-3-1960 on Akiva Street) remember that in front of the square at the Gauha-Hapoel intersection there were tiny concrete barrels that made it possible to turn from Gaola up Hapoel Street.
A real change. Kudos to the mayor Mrs. Kalish and the deputy mayor Michael Alper. Good luck
Rafi too, Hason too, the whole family too? shhhhh
Well done, I agree with you
