There are few neighborhoods with real uniqueness in Israel. Like Neve Tzedek or Nachalot, Bat Galim is a one-of-a-kind neighborhood for many reasons.
Too bad, too bad, too bad for what was done and what was not done in it. A huge miss.
The Neve Tzedek neighborhood cannot be compared to any other neighborhood in Israel, because of its beauty because of its location, but mainly because of the human composition that was in it, and who lived in complete harmony and human warmth rare in its size and beauty, religious and secular Ashkenazi and Sephardic natives of the neighborhood and new immigrants from Tiberias from Acre from Jerusalem remnants from the communities of Nablus Hebron and even Gazans, I assume that the Bat Galim neighborhood was a beautiful neighborhood, but it was pure Ashkenazi from the upper deciles, educated and even elitist, so it was very lacking in the popular tone of Neve Tzedek.
This is the first time I enter to take a look and observe here on this website, unfortunately I found very minimal material here about my childhood neighborhood, after all it is "Bat Galim"
For those who don't know, the Queen of the Neighborhoods has moved not only to Haifa but to all the neighborhoods in Israel and even abroad and why? Because there was never and never was created a neighborhood where all the families who lived there were like one big family!
This is the only neighborhood in the world where to this day the children of the neighborhood from those days continue to meet and even be in close contact!
This is the only neighborhood in the world where the sea, the pool and the casino were the center of our childhood life and around all this we will be adding more interesting and even unusual topics!
Does anyone of you know how many sports and sports stars Bat Galim raised Bat Galim?
Well, 7 main sports were Bat Galim's share and contribution and they are: swimming, water polo, soccer, hockey, basketball, boxing and even athletics.
In swimming we had Uzi Beck the national champion, Oded Paz the long distance swimming champion and more...
Most of Maccabi Haifa's women's volleyball players were born in Bat Galim and most of them were even in the composition of the Israeli national team, for example the late Hagai Agam Laban Miki Margalit, Benny Margalit, Miki Herzig, Yoram Lunberg, and many others... In football, Bat Galim grew up very talented players who played In Hapoel Haifa and Maccabi Haifa and some of them even played with great success in the Israeli national team such as for example Robbie Young, Itzik Englander and we can even add Danny Shmilovitz even though he lived in Kiryat Eliezer but it was out of nowhere another part of Bat Galim and thus the list in sports is growing.
Did any of you even know that Bat Galim grew up with 5 beauty queens? Like Irit Lavi, Dorit Yelink, Miri Zamir, Chava Levy and Miriam (Hungarian redhead.)
Did any of you know that many of the stars of the world visited Bat Galim? Like for example Paul Newman, Sophia Loren, Sal Minao, one of the greatest actresses in the world,
Nureyev, the best ballet dancer in the world, Josephine Baker, one of the world's greatest singers, who performed at the Bat Galim Casino, the singer of the Metboday Herman band, one of the best singing bands in the world, took Meryl, one of the Bat Galim girls, as his wife. And there are countless other fascinating stories that any neighborhood in the world would be really blessed with, but in this case we, the children of Bat Galim, were blessed to grow up in a beautiful neighborhood and blessed by the city of Haifa and its citizens. Shabbat Galim served as the pearl of the city of Haifa.
About a year ago we held a conference for all Bat Galim neighborhood veterans, a conference that to this day is hard to forget because over 800 people from all over the world came to this conference! This is the first time in world history that an entire neighborhood organizes and gathers for such a conference!
Who was not a former member of the Knesset like Liyova Eliav who was the commander of the ship Haim Arlozorov on behalf of the Palmach who arrived with immigrants right up to the coast of Bat Galim, but the British prevented them from landing on the shores of the country and sent them back to Cyprus on another ship.
The late Captain Ike Eren of the same ship also came to the conference and spoke, Zeev Almog born in Bat Galim and former Navy Commander, Moshe Ram the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria and other dignitaries.
In short, it was an evening he will never forget.
For this evening he wrote a great song that became Bat Galim's anthem called "You were such a great neighborhood"
Song name : "Bat Galim" was such a great neighborhood>
Words: Moshik Goldstein
Performer of the song: Uzi Avraham (singer of the band "Nari HaHatzer" one of the top bands in Israel in the 60s/70s)
I look from the Carmel to you
And to the sights of the landscape that are revealed
And you are spread out on the water's edge
Winks and calls me Bat Galim
And images flash through my head
of people and places
When you are the crown jewel of Haifa.
Flooded with a flood of memories
from wars between the neighborhoods
And to the beautiful Naomi Brut
ditty
You were such a great neighborhood
with plenty of children in each cycle
Even with becoming different and so different
I love to come back to you
In front of the foam of the waves on the surface of the water
And the casino that carries it
I raise my eyes to the sky
Am I seeing or just hallucinating?
the pool and the boulevard
the crowned square
And the movie theater on the side
the bustling streets
Children play
And the simplicity that was lost forever
ditty
You were such a great neighborhood…….
I walk the familiar path
Surrounded by memorable sights from the past
And the nostalgia pierces the heart
Is it really all just over?
>
She does not understand writing instruments
And there is no coffee on it
Neither is Ezekiel in Sandaleria
And Brett no longer sells tools
And Phoebe is already a legend
Company also became a restaurant
And so all the way
I will go and sing you a hymn
Even if you are so different today
I love to come back to you
